Word to genetics. There were guys at my old gym who were repping 225 bench 10-12 times while curling with 30 lbs...and they had HUGE biceps. So it matters on genetics. Some are strong but look small and some people are big who are weak.

To the thread starter, take a vid next time to prove these guys wrong.

that's nothing. my friend chris who is about 5' 7'' 185 curled my friend mike who is about 150lbs with one arm. mike had him in an armbar and chris just stood up and curled mike up with his one arm and dropped him.

I'll try but I gotta borrow someone's phone or something cause I don't have a vid. camera on my phone. That's how my friend Alex and David are (Both 15) my friend Alex Bench presses 230 and my friend David benches 280, yet they can only curl 50lbs with one arm like me.

There's a component of lifting that used to be called neuromuscular programming. I don't know what they're calling it these days. It's training your brain to recruit the most amount of muscle fibers as possible to increase your strength without increasing your size. Powerlifters work on this, getting big AND increasing muscle recruitment. EDIT: I remember now. The thinking at the time was that it was accomplished through "super-slow reps," like 5-10 seconds up and 10-20 seconds down, with about half your max rep weight, and rep it out until you hit your physical pain threshhold. Very painful but it works great. Many bodybuilders do not work on this; it is possible to be big and not as strong as someone else with the same sized muscles. NMP can be trained in other ways, I'm sure: a male gymnast would be an excellent example of someone with a low-profile (efficient) physique -- opposite a powerlifter's build -- but excellent NMP.

Those guys who haul airplanes around in harnesses and bend nails with their fingers have highly-developed NMP.

The ***** way. Bending or bucking your body to "jump" the weight up at the weak point(s) of the movement. Bad form.

A cheat curl is also when you start humping air to bring up the weight
