This morning I was scared to weigh myself because the last few days I've not exactly been healthy and had been drinking, but to my shock I weighed in at 205 lbs, I was thinking I'd be 208-209 lbs because of my unhealthy past few days.

Do fat burners really cut three pounds off you like that? Now a bigger question of mine is how healthy are they and are they allowed in boxing? They really seem too good to be true!

As stated above, I really did take one without even questioning it. My brothers quite fit himself, he's always gone for runs and to the gym etc, I've previously been the unfit one up until now so he knows his stuff I guess.

Opinions? Advice? Please do let me know if they're the worst thing you can ever take and are completely not allowed in any sports. (A concern of mine and I obviously won't take them again if that's the case.)

EDIT. I do a lot of workouts and really push myself, so I've been losing weight quickly as it is but every little helps right... means I can get into boxing quicker. It seems a bit shortcutty to me so I'm wondering if it's a silly idea to take them.

I hate to break it to you but 3-4 pounds could very well easily be a good morning toilet break and not the work of a fat burner...also most fat burners seem to work in conjunction with exercise and controlled caloric intake so hmm...

My general rule is if it seems to be too good to be true, well it usually isn't. From what I've seen fat burners range from harmless self marketing (lose fat in 10 days!) to dangerous 'oh god lipids are literally crawling out of my skin at an unhealthy rate' and 'Ive **** my pants'.

Somehow I think the boxing itself will be the worst thing for ur health.

OP didnt tell us what the ingredients in the "fat burners" were but they probably have stimulants like caffeine and
        Synephrine or something similar.

        These also act as diuretics.

A pound of fat is like 3000 calories. No OP you didnt burn like 9000 calories in a few days to lose 3 lbs of fat.

You pissed out 3 lbs of water.

Simple. From what I read in the post, and he’s concerned about his health, is don’t box. He admits to his complete ignorance. He doesn’t even mention what compound pills he took. Thinks he lost five pounds of fat, doesn’t realize his drinking along will drop that much water. I guess he has no knowledgeable people around let alone the brother whose pills he took. He’s not sure if they are legal in boxing or anything. He’s on the internet looking for answers. If he’s an adult then honest advice is stay out of the ring. Maybe he just wants to train. He’s vague. It’s honest advice. Not being a jerk. But seriously the post was almost a farce.

              I can't argue with that.

If you want to cut weight use natural stimulants for your metabolism such as hot peppers and coffee. Eat your salads and vegetables with peppers and drink sugarless coffee in the mornings - it suppresses your appetite and boosts your metabolism. Moreover, cut out all carbs and substitute it with protein/vegetables. You'll lose a **** tonne of weight. It's not healthy to overdo this but you could, for example, cut out 80% of carbs and *exclusively* substitute it with greens/lean meat for a less extreme version. Simply no need for fat burners. You don't know what's in that crap half the time.

I go heavy with tea, with sugar substitutes of course.

I do the same with coffee as it's an appetite supressant. However, you have to make sure you're not overconsuming as too much caffeine can result in pretty bad anxiety. Learned this the hard way during my mid-20s studing for exams. My strategy is one strong brew in the morning and a much weaker brew in the afternoon - so I get the taste but none of the anxiety.
