  • Important or Not? Taking one day a week to rest from training?

People always told me to rest one day a week to let your muscles and body somewhat regenerate. How important is it? For some reason I feel guilty taking that one day off.

Generally, it's a good idea. Rules are made to be broken though. Again, this is highly individual, and depends on a lot of factors.

Until you're a little older, and more experienced to the point where you recognize to signals your body sends you, I'd recommend you do take that day off. Taking it off when you didn't need to, will hurt you a lot less than not taking it off when you should have! Especially if you're taking care of business on your training days.

          ain't that the truth!!!
Every year after turning 25 it's gotten harder; especially considering I've had to come back from a lot of layoffs.

Last year I realized my limit was about a 5 day week; often the 6th day would just be too much unless I was goin kinda easy in there.

I know it all goes back to building up slowly & being consistant. If I was a lot better at that, I'd probably have that 6th day easy. But these days my body's VERY vocal if it don't like something.

I know exactly what you mean. Getting old sucks!

You can build back up to it though, you just have to take one step at a time and be patient.

Of course taking a day out of a week is good. 7 days is way too much, 6 should be the limit. I usually workout intensely 5 times a week M-F and sometimes on weekends, just fool around on my heavybag at home since the gym is closed. Nothing too intense. Just working on technique.

I think you can take a day off a week or just mix up your routine so that maybe you aren't as training as intensely every day, instead of going all out, concentrating on specific areas of your routine for not as long as your normal workout.
