Latest Sparring Videos, please critique!

    looks like you guys are sparring at about 50% max and pulling punches. This is good for sparring and training but hard to get a good idea of what's truly happening. A quick snappy jab is most effective and I don't know if your holding back because of a preset intensity level or if you really do have a lazy jab. Its tough to gauge here. either way, at 50%, is a good time to try new things and maybe take a few shots figuring it out.

Dr's all told me I'l never see the inside of a ring again.I went into a crippling depression got hooked on the vicodin they gave me and gave up until my son was asking if I could teach him some boxing,having all the gear.I did nothing but mitt drills for two months before he or his sister could touch the heavy bag.That brought me back to life,if I can't fight I can train.It's made us all closer too.

        Here are 2 short videos from some recent sparring. I'm in the white headgear. Apologies for the cameraman who missed the action a few times. Also the 2nd video cuts out because my phone didn't have enough memory.

        This was my first sparring in almost 6 months- last time was against the same guy, and I was sloppy and overconfident and got hit with a big left hook on my chin which I didn't even see coming. So I thought I'd better take a break.

        This time I wanted to focus on defense and movement. I've learnt a lot of things since last time but putting it into practice is difficult. My mind kind of went blank, but I'm happy that a few of the things I tried out went well.

        Good points:
        1. Movement and keeping distance against an aggressive fighter (although he doesn't seem to know how to cut off the ring). I got hit a few times but no big shots like last time.
        2. For the first time I was able to mix up the direction of my movement - not just circling to the left but to the right too.
        3. I tried throwing some sudden straight rights, which seemed to work well. I got him good at 0:38 on the 2nd video- did I almost drop him or was he just off-balance? Afterwards he told me my attacks were predictable, and that even though I had power on the straight right, I never followed it up with anything.
        4. A few times I tried to turn him and hit him on his blind side, like at 1:44 on the 1st video. But turning the opponent seemed very difficult.

        Bad points -

        1. Poor footwork, flat-footed, lack of head movement, as usual.
        2. Lazy jabs. Also I didn't jab as much as I should have, and didn't utilize the lead hand as much as I could have. Didn't feint so much.
        3. For some reason I kept dropping my left hand whenever I threw the straight right (unconsciously imitating Mayweather?! Although I suppose he has his left hand low anyway).
        4. I didn't attack enough and he probably got the better of me overall.
        5. Poor technique on the straight right - not twisting my foot and hips correctly.
        6. Forgot to control after missing punches, although I haven't practiced this yet


        Anything else?

        One question- I've noticed after throwing the 1-2, I follow up with a jab, like a 1-2-3. It's because I feel exposed after the straight right. I suppose it works well for defense but I was wondering if there's a better idea.

        Your jab needs to be stiff, you drop you left when you throw your right hand. I think you already addressed this on your self critique. You need more shadow sparring.

          Also you retreat to much, try to come forward. Don't worry about getting hit, just make sure your hands are up. You threw a couple of good combinations in the first video
