I think in 20 years a lot of good fighters will use a lot more unorthodox/less traditional boxing methods - look at Lomachencko as a prime example at the moment
My sensai taught me the importance of fighting southpaw ,i now can fight both (orthodox naturaly ) recently for 2 years now and you do so to confuse and have more options against opponents switching stances to create angles . He has no boxing background ,ive seen him school former HW kick boxing champions in sparring at 65 plus yrs old and walk into boxing sessions and tell me how some one will lose looking at them just for 1 minute , to happen in that boxers bout that week .

I would probably tend to agree with more unothodox methods being used in the following years,at least in lighter classes . Hell were going to see one soon in McGregor (though hes not a boxer ) lol

Its important having credible ppl around you.

I sparred this amateur boxer cop who competed at heavyweight....forgot his name, he fought multiple times in the NY golden gloves but never won it I believe....he fought out of brotherhood boxing club in queens NY....I was 140 at the time....the coach makes people spar of all different weight classes which imo does more harm than good. Anyway, so i was trying to dart in and out and stay on the outside, till I realized ai was safer on the inside since I I underestimated his speed on the outside.....so I think he got upset that I was doing pretty well on the inside and he pushed me off Hard, like a full on shove, I was on his ass but he moved back well enough to unload a strong ass right that made me see stars....I didnt go down but I could tell he threw with bad intentions and Ive had a neck issue ever since....whenever it gets cold or it rains.....to this day i never understood why that coach made people nowhere near the same weightclass spar.....hes the vice president now of the ny amateur scene

Walk around about 70kg, have sparred guys who were nearing 80kg. The weight makes a big difference!! Like someone else said, I think you just gotta use the advantages that you have as a smaller fighter - mobility, speed. Likewise, when sparring a smaller fighter (think smallest I've sparred is maybe 63kg - I felt like I really had to ease off!), walk 'em down.

I don't think it's v useful to spar different sizes - when will you ever compete against such mismatches?? Never

My advice is, find someone your size or just don't sparr bcz it doesn't worth it. It might end up with an injury for you. Most of the injuries happen when someone out-weights the other.
Me 147 sparred some hw once, didn't like it and never done it again bcz I was already afraid of getting git by a bigger guy so I couldn't really make offense and get hit.

its pretty pointless to make people with large weight difference spar each other. if it is done the bigger guy should be experienced enough to control himself (more than 10 fights at least) and be under clear instructions to take it easy.

Biggest Pro i actually fought (outside the ring ) 6'3 250

Sparring big guys suited my style more and more had MUCH better work put into it than sparring smaller guys who really werent around me bc all my friends were big athletes .Fighting /Sparring guys under 200 is a free day if your accustomed to SHW 's where you have to work harder to reach them. Im never on the back foot and able to dictate with power which is a plus .

I really train on /off more in MMA type training but as you said combat is hit and not get hit .

Usually out weighed by 80/90 pounds bc im not big and they are very big but if you dont hit hard the stradegdy is simple ,pickem apart on the inside .Or when in doubt choke em out !
You were in middle school when Yuri had his last professional fight which he weighed 188 for. Obviosuly a lie, this is why you woldn't tell me his name and I had to find out for myself lmao.

So like of he outweighed you by 80-90 lbs, you're like 120 lbs? What are you like 4'11"? We had national champs in my gym about 118 that would put you in a pine box under 60 seconds lmao. You can't even hit a bag wth??

I have many dangerous sparred or fought in the beginning. Even though I can’t remember most of them. I just remember one thing this was really a tough time and I go through it. But the advice is just to work hard join a gym be curious to learn about new techniques and the most important is to observe your fighter before fighting.

7 feet, 280 lbs. No heavies in the gym to work with him so I did. He pulled off from 100% but not for long. I threw hooks at his forearm as he jabbed. Waited for his right hand to come so I could roll it and fire hooks. He'd grab and hold and lean on me anytime I tried to get inside.

I was the smallest guy at my gym. I fought in the amateurs at 152lbs and at 5'11. Everyone else was 200+. I think I was 17/18yrs old at the time. I was sparring in a basement at a YMCA with no ring! So I made sure not to be pinned against the wall or trapped in a corner. I was always moving. This guy was 210 or 215lbs. Hit hit hard AF! Never landed flush but i remember getting hit in the arms, body, shoulders, and he sent me flying. We used to tie a chain and a 45lbs plate on the heavy bag for him and hit still sent the flag flying. Anyways, I was a couple inches taller with longer arms and obviously wayy faster. This guy used to run his mouth and even injured my trainer once. One time we were sparring with headgear and 12oz gloves. My strategy was to use my reach and speed. I would feint, use fast jabs, quick combos and move out of the way. Kind of like when De La Hoya fought Trinidad and Vargas. I remember tagging him with my jab and him getting more and more pissed off because he could not get me. He even gave me free shots as an attempt to bull rush me or counter. Anyways, i was reading him and his movement patterns. Every time I threw a jab he would move his head to his left. So I threw like 3 jabs in a row and he kept moving his head to that same direction. So i faked a jab and knew where his head was gonna be and threw a big right hand instead. It paid off and I dropped him! He got up pretty quick but his face was covered in blood. My trainer wanted to stop the sparring but the guy wanted to finish the round to get me back. After a few seconds more of sparring he ended up quitting. All this happened in front of his father in law and his best friend. My rep at the gym and around town went crazy! I ended up winning the novice golden gloves at 152lbs that same year. That guy never showed up to the gym again! A couple of years later i started working at a Correctional facility. I weighed about 165lbs. Still in shape and shredded. I was in a bar for a halloween party where an ex inmate was drunk and ran into me. After a few short words he ended up headbutting me in the face. He cut me in the bridge of the nose. As he approached me i threw a straight hand and knoced the guy out cold. This guy had a weight advantage. I ended up in the office with the Sheriff to let him know what happened and was forntunate enough to keep my job to where i am now a Lieutenant.
