Are sparring wars beneficial in any way?

    Are sparring wars beneficial in any way?

    So usually we do moderate intensity sparring where we can all work on our technique, defence or a particular move but last week this Romanian kid who didn't even speak English came to spar and we literally went to war for 3 rounds. Don't get me wrong I loved it and landed the cleaner shots but I can't help but think it's excessive and a tad bad for the brain cells. What do you guys think? However, it definitely helped me work on head movement and my stamina to fight at a ridiculous pace. But my hands fokin hurt like hell the next day.

    It inevitably happens on occasion but it should be avoided, IMO, as it creates damage and shortens a career. Even more important than your boxing career, your entire future. Some will argue that it toughens you up, but take real fights and build your record if you want to get toughened up. Don't accumulate unnecessary wear and tear in the gym. There's very little you can learn in a war that you can't learn through normal sparring.

        As a person with both a degree and many amateur bouts, nah I do this for fun and I am in the right mind to want to save it for my fights and not the gym.

            You shouldn't be going to war very often, and definitely not as a beginner.

            If your at a more elite level, your trainer will set up sparring matches with outside fighters, and those are the times your expected to step it up.

            If you want to get better you do need to need push it from time to time, especially against higher level competition and before fights. But doing it all the time will result in nothing but a damaged body brain damage.

            At my gym we Would constantly spar using just jabs or left hand, than right hands, than maybe we Would have an experienced guy vs a non experienced guy, but the experienced guy could only use his left hand. Sometimes only body shots, etc.

            There's a lot of ways to spar and get better and fine tune your skills without taking a beating or giving one.

            Besides, you'll burn out early most likely if your always in gym wars. Those are mentally, physically, and emotionally draining.

              You should be learning from sparring and getting better. If the pace that you progress at is a low pace then fine, if it is a high pace then fine. Just make sure you are progressing. Sparring wars just for the sake of sparring wars are useless. When you are an elite level pro things are different.

              Take McCall and Tyson's sparring sessions for example. Those guys went to war but the thing is they knew how to protect themselves and were very skilled so the chance of getting knocked out was low.

              Its fine to spar hard just make sure you are doing it to get better is all I'm saying.

                I'm so glad that I was so freaking out from sparring (thx that damn bold Kazakh Pacquioish kid!!! ) that I didn't really sparr more than 6 to 7 times in my first 12 to 15 months of boxing. I used to MThai but it was totally different.
                I just took beatings and watched more and more defensive fighters, just focused on mechanics and defence and it worked. I thought I had to do like champs do. I was able to sparr guys much exp.ed than me.
                I see guys age 23 24 talking about can't remembering stuff and they don't even make money out of it. They just learned the things hard way and embraced getting constantly hit as a style.
                If you are not even making money than what's the purpose?

                  If you are sparring somebody from your gym, work on things and help one another get better. If you are sparring somebody from another gym, kicking his ass.

                    It depends man, if you are sparring people in your own gym, no, use it as practice. If its another gym than yeah go hard or stay home. At our gym we invite other gyms to our gym every Friday, we are not looking to get beat in our gym.

                    But lets face it man, if you want to be successful at any sport you should want to be competitive if not than its just a hobby. Even within the gym things can get heated.
