why might a trainer stop doing mitt work with someone?

Same thing happened to me as a matter of fact.
Everyone who came in got 1 - 2, I think one guy got 3 or 4 rounds on the mitts, except me.
This isn't the first time this has happened either, but at the same time, I sometimes show up rather late.
I think it's a mix of me showing up too late, and him just forgetting about me. He hasn't stopped working mitts with me completely, so it leads me to believe that he just forgets sometimes or I came in too late.

i've fallen out of touch with the amateur boxing schedule, but do the guys that get 1 on 1 time with the trainers have a tournament or important fights coming up?
if that's the case it's going to be natural for them to get more time to help them prepare.
if you're showing up and working hard i think it's fair to expect them to eventually give you some 1 on 1 time if you are paying to train there. wait until they're done being super busy preparing other guys and ask for a few rounds on the mitts.

The same was the case at my current gym but I noticed a while back that they stopped bothering with me. Every other person gets called up to the ring for mitt work, usually shortly after arriving, but it's like I'm invisible.
I'm gonna have to ask tomorrow. I'd hate to think that they've given up on me. It's quite demotivating, and annoying that I'm not getting my money's worth
So, I went to Peru to try Ayahuasca. After that, I decided, I went back to my roots. I boxed when I was younger, and always have practiced it a bit. So, rather than go home after the retreat, I elected to stay in the local city. I bought some mushrooms, and started training real hard, every day. They had a heavy bag at their gymnasium that I ended up breaking, but before that happened a kid would approach me and ask for advice. At first it was a pain in the ass, because I didn't speak good Spanish at the time. Eventually, I showed him the goods. I showed him Fenech's arm and shoulder conditioning routine and Pacman's ab routine. Some Loma footwork. while I didn't have mitts, I was able to get his basic punches a bit stronger. Little ****er would always pop in and surprise me, really he was more of a pain in the ass at first. Eventually he grew on me and I had a guy I was training for a little while there. At one point we were seeking out a fighting gym that was closed, then I said 'where is the nearest plaza' he showed me, then I proceded to skip rope for 10 rounds while a small crowd of kids and locals gathered. I gave him the rope and he started skipping, got all the way to five rounds, wanted to quit but he kept on thru to 6. He put that photo as his facebook backsplash, little bastard took pride in what I showed him.
After that happened, about a week passed. I was following a daily routine of, yoga 7am, skipping rope 12 rounds at 8am, then home for 3 hours, then gym for 3 hours. I got the text from him after doing the 12 rounds on the rope. "I am going to spar today, please come to the stadium I want you to be there." So I show up.
The coaches had about twenty kids gloved up, all boxing on concrete. Zero real regulation. The top guy they had there, an amateur who was 6-0 (4), started putting a whooping on my guy. It was a total mismatch. It made me feel real sorry for even teaching the kid anything at all. He didn't do a single thing we worked on...Zero lateral movement, zero jabs, he wasn't even maintaining a guard. No three punch olympic combinations...Just getting countered, hard, and running away. I was yelling 'that's enough' after about a minute.
My point is, after that, I told the kid, look. Put up a bag at home, train for six months, then maybe give it another shot if you feel the drive. Boxing is absolute. You don't wanna play around with this, just trust me, son. Get stronger and come back...
It took me awhile to tell him that, because I didn't want to hurt his spirit, but I'd rather do that early and now before he's damaged, so I told him that.Last edited by Warrior Scholar; 02-01-2018, 10:58 AM.
