  • why might a trainer stop doing mitt work with someone?

At my old boxing gym everyone would do 2-3 rounds of mitts with the trainer every time they came to the gym.

The same was the case at my current gym but I noticed a while back that they stopped bothering with me. Every other person gets called up to the ring for mitt work, usually shortly after arriving, but it's like I'm invisible.

I'm gonna have to ask tomorrow. I'd hate to think that they've given up on me. It's quite demotivating, and annoying that I'm not getting my money's worth

They pretty much have given up on you.
Do you talk a lot on the pads? As in ask questions when they say do something, complain about stuff or anything like that?

Are you fighting or just training?

And the other option is maybe they see not putting work in

No fights coming up and those fighters are in camp mode?

When fights are approaching, the fighters always get more mitt and trainer time. That's the norm, just think sometimes you will fight and they will be on downtime so it's all swings and roundabouts

I didn't ask partly because today the trainer did some mitt work with me anyway.

Maybe I'm one of those guys who do OK on the mitts but can't quite put it together when sparring, so I need to focus on that rather than the mitts.

fighters with fights coming up usually have priority.

when one of our guys has a fight lined up, coach is usually tied, we cant get any mitt work so we do it for each other

You are the one training in Japan right?

Perhaps they are biased towards you being a foreigners?

Not uncommon and even worse if you do not speak the language very well.

If you're paying to go there, speak to them about it. Once. Then, take your money elsewhere. If you are a customer then they work for you. I went to the most highly regarded gym in my state and was put-off by the attitudes of the coaches who thought they were doing me a favor by charging me $160/month to go there. Within a few years, their star athletes left, and along went the customers.

His not holding mitts for you doesn't mean he gave up on you.
Mitts are advanced training tools, by advanced i mean not for beginners, maybe he thinks there are better things to do rather than mitts for you at this stage.
The question is that, did he stop giving instructions and tips to you? Afterall mitts aren't magical stuff teaching you anything.

This one is true. I've seen so many trainers acting like total scumbags except for the time payday comes close. They act sweet for a week bcz they don't want to lose a cow to milk.
