With absolutely no experience I'd say about 6 months of hard training 2-3 hours a day 5 days a week(with some sparring intermittently) should equip you with the skills for AM fights, but like you said everyone has a different learning curve and more importantly confidence level so it could depend.

Depending on age I would say 6 months to 1 year of solid training with sparring. Some states don't have that good of an amateur program so I would recommend trying to win the golden gloves in your state and at least doing well at nationals. If you can successfully win the golden gloves twice then you might be ready to turn pro. By I take it you mean a club fighter who fights for a few hundred to a few thousand dollars per fight. You could be ready by 2 years time with the right training.

Should of mentioned I'm from the UK and live in the UK. Really only just started training. I have friends that have fought am for over a year and are no wher near semi pro but I'm willing to train hard spar hard and I'm confident.
If I can achieve semi pro in a year from now I'd be pleased with myself.
I have my first am fight in the local village hall end of September.

          Oh and I'm 29.

It depends on how fast you pick everything up. Realistically, I wouldn't expect to be winning anything more than regional titles at your age by the time you become a semi pro or make a living off of it.

sorry I don't mean to be rude, but what the fu@k is a semi pro

if you are getting paid to fight with a pro license then you are a pro, if you do not get paid and have no pro license then you are an amateur

so what is a semi pro, does that mean you get paid but have to give the money back

                  there is no "semi pro"

amateur fights are unpaid. pro fights are paid.
