I got my ass whooped by a experienced fighter when i first started at 16. the coach didnt even watch to make sure it was controlled. I changed gyms instantly and was sparring experienced amateurs in a controlled environment. They would go easy on me and box me to bits but never took liberties it was a good learning experience as opposed to just getting slaughtered with no experience. As time went in i gained confidence and became more dedicated than some of the guys that would toy with me when i first started. Goodluck mate

Yeah there's two ways to get schooled while sparring.

The way where you get crushed and didn't learn anything.

And the way you get outboxed but you learned, but didn't take serious damage.

I was lucky and my first gym I ever went to did things the right way. But

When I moved to NYC, I couldn't believe the way trainers were letting there guys beat the crap out of each other. I'd say over half the trainers there are complete hacks. Just hood dudes who were boxing fans, and were around the sport a little bit who became trainers.
