If it's his genes he'll probably level out later on. But 100 lbs at 8 years old is still just too big. It's a little too early to get him in the ring too.

Honestly kids at that age shouldn't be working out. Take him on a hike and make him sweat, that should suffice. And clean up his diet like I said.
He's definitely not muscular and I'm not saying he's "big boned" like Cartman to spare his feelings lol ... I'd say it straight up if he was fat but he's idk ... Just "solid" ... He'd be the fat kid if this was like the 1960's how about that? There are fat kids in his class ... He's not one of them.

Eating healthy being more expensive or taking more time is a misconceived perception or an excuse to eat unhealthy

I've listed prices of healthy foods in another thread

Convinience and time wise - I switch on an electrical steamer. 20 minutes later I have "boiled" eggs, variety of steamed vegetables ready to eat.

Nuts are ready to eat. Require no preparation (unless you wanna soak almonds)

Fruits are ready to eat. Require no preparation.

An avocado only requires to be cut in half and the seed taken out.

Oatmeal can be made in a couple of minutes . Dry fruit toppings ready to eat. Linseed ready to eat.

I'm with the basketball twice a week .team sport
Swimming on the weekend for fun but take 10min to do freestyle and breast stroke laps
and sprints after or before boxing 3 times a week.once you get him to about 85 pounds he should be fine.when he turns 10 he will stretch out.

In the boxing gym by month 1 he should be at 40 exercises each on squats jumping jacks push ups
        Sit ups and mountain climbers

Shadow box 4 rounds jump rope 3 rounds

Heavy bag 4 rounds uppercut bag 3 rounds

Mitts 4 rounds side steps in ring 3 rounds and
        Speed bag 3 rounds

If the parents and the boy care about him they will take your advice to heart!
A basic diet with plenty of exercise and rest will get the boy into a childs good condition. Road work at 8 years old is NOT advised by me. There are large bones still developing length and thickness and they are not developed enough for a pounding. Cells are refilling the bones 24/7 and the rigors of road work aren't needed for healthy growth.

Speak your peace, make your point and assist ifb the boy wants you to.
Thats all you can do is guide and offer yourself as example.
He moves with you or away from you. Thats all you can do.

this might sound petty, but do his parents buy him soda?

the leading source of added sugars in the diet of a school aged kid isn't packaged desert foods, candy, etc, it's in soda. it's an easy way to cut out excess calories. if he switches from soda to water, he may very well stop gaining weight.

some soda also contains phosphoric acid. i've been told by a buddy with a relevant PHD [who is also an ironman... look it up. you don't fake becoming an ironman] that phosphoric acid has been shown to possibly reduce bone density.

those types of papers are not really my area of expertise, so i generally don't read much more than the abstracts. looking through some of the research, the finding seems pretty well supported.

                lose the soda.

Running is great, but I never understood why it's so pressed in the sport of boxing compared to other sports. We always here you should run almost everyday and always see boxers running. Of course boxing requires one of, if not, the most conditioned bodies in sports, but it is not the end all be all. If you want to get in boxing shape, there's tons more you can do along with, obviously boxing. Wrestlers run. football players run, but we don't always hear in those sports how you must run X number of days. Go to a wrestling practice. Intense as hell. Yes they run but they do tons more for conditioning. I know my college wrestling team goes swimming. All im saying is running is great, but it's not the only thing that can get you conditioned.

Yet my son is an undefeated am champion.
                      trumps kids in conditioning.

Drink milk and water and rest good every night. Follow the plan and your nephew will be a bad mo fo.
