Should kids do roadwork? Lose weight?

My nephew is 8 ... He's a BIG BOY 100lbs but not fat very solid like a defensive end in football. My question is can I have him do roadwork at his age? How much should I be looking for him to run? Until he gets tired? Or should I set a goal (mile, half mile)?

Also he can spare to lose some weight ... I just don't know if that's healthy at his age should I focus some of my training on weight loss or should I strictly work on the basics and if the weight comes off it's a plus.
I only ask about the weight loss because I don't think when the time comes we will have much luck in finding kids in his age group to spar because of his size and when it comes to competing the same thing.

Any tips or input would be helpful.

Not fat? Very solid? Unless he's muscular there's no such thing. Sorry but the kids overweight. There's no reason to run a kid when cleaning up his diet should fix the problem. If it's his genes he'll probably level out later on. But 100 lbs at 8 years old is still just too big. It's a little too early to get him in the ring too.

Honestly kids at that age shouldn't be working out. Take him on a hike and make him sweat, that should suffice. And clean up his diet like I said.

young kids who do a lot of roadwork, long miles, will grow to have an enlarged heart which will cause problems later on in life.

He doesnt need to be doing roadwork at 8 years old. Basic training and a healthy diet will get the kid where he needs to be,.

                roadwork?

soccer, basketball, hockey, football, whichever. get the kid running / moving around.

i don't think it's fair to send an 8 year old out running on pavement for several miles. at the very least, he'll probably learn to hate boxing.

                  Sprints

                  15 yds
                  20yds
                  25yds

                  10 each 3 times a week.
                  Stamina.at that age is huge
I see so many skilled kids get torn out the frame
After 2 rounds of sparring cause they tire out.
Taking solid punches they dont need to.
                  Stamina helps protect the brain.

Most kids compete after 8 months training.
Season starts in late feb early march all the way to late november.the kids with stamina have the most success.fatigue in a boxing ring will undue any fighter.

Thanks for the input guys. I can't really control his diet he eats at his own house and they eat garbage. I can only give them my input but it's probably going to cause problems so I'll steer clear of that and in all honesty mom and dad work a ton to make sure he has what he needs so often times nutrition takes a backseat to a quick unhealthy meal. I feel them though the easy choice isn't always the right choice but it's an everyday hustle/struggle and more times than not you wanna just kick off your shoes and relax with the fam after a hard days work... Cooking a healthy meal is essentially "more work".
