The hook cross, done exactly how frotch did it vs Kessler.

So he didn't load the hook it was straight from stance, he pushed off the rear foot, his arm was stretched out quite far, he rotated his hips just a little bit since its a non loaded hook making it fast, he rotated the hips mid air AS he was stepping forward, then followed with the jab.

See its not much slower than a jab, still puts them off balance and its unexpected.

You are basically using the hook to move the guard so you have a clear target for the cross.

Not a bad combo. But like all combinations you can go to the well to many times and get timed.

It did move his guard he blocked the hook and was open to the straight right.

            hmm.
it looked to me groves had his left hand down by his knees trying to hook froch - not because he ate a froch hook-, ended up eating something he cant remember

I didn't see the Froch/ Kesslar fight, but personally, I think it's better to feint the straight and then land with a strong jab (It should be stronger than usual due to having wound up your hip to throw or feint a 2).

Or, after having conditioned your opponent with a 2, feint with the 2, then send a right hook to the body.

This is standard stuff Alex. Good pad holders will take you through all kinds of variations that you can try in sparring and learn to use in the right situations. There is no such thing as a bad combo because against the right person at the right time you can probably land anything.

Your thinking is very obtuse, just relax with these questions. You need to try everything in the gym with your coach so he can make sure you're doing it correctly then take it to a controlled sparring situation and eventually hard sparring. Then you will understand when to use and not use certain techniques. Get the fundamentals down then experiment. Creativity is what keeps any sport fun.
