  • Got all the time in the world to train... Need tips to make the most of it

Hey guys, I've been boxing for a few months and I love it. I'm 21 years old and I'm at a point in my life where I can train as much as I want, so I want to take my training to the next level, and be the best boxer I can be, and be able to compete in the amateurs as soon as possible.

The problem is, there are so many different sources and people with different training philosophies on the internet, I would appreciate it if some of you experienced guys would help me out here.

I need to know how, and how much I should train. For example, how much should I do roadwork (how much long distance and how much HIIT)?, how should I train my core and how much? How, and how much should I build strength and power? How can I get the most out of my bag training.. you know where I'm going with this, I would appreciate as detailed tips as possible

    Thx.

Find a boxing gym with a boxing trainer. The internet is for suggestions not learning a sport that has so many techniques to learn. Its done with a trainer NO fighter is successfull without a mentor.

Ignore trolly mctrollsalot, are you asking for a fitness routine to complement trips to the gym? How often are you with your trainer and what's a typical session like?

I think you should join a local boxing gym.

You should transfer to a college in Las Vegas and join Mayweather's Boxing Club.
That way you can get your degree AND be trained by the best of the best...

Kill two birds with one stone.

Or, you can join Freddie Roach's Wild Card gym if you're more if a brawler type and go to school down there.

Notice how I stress to go to college? Just want a fellow BoxingScene brother to reach his full potential and not rely on just that ONE job to be able to eat and live paycheck to paycheck.

                Good luck bro!

hey thanks for the reply. I go to a boxing gym 3-4 times a week, there we do drills and spar (about 50/50), usually with different trainers. I'm basically looking for tips on how to train when I'm alone outside of these classes, both on what techniques/drills to work on and which type of fitness routines would complement boxing the best.

So right now, the routine basically consists of 3-4 hours a week with trainers and partners doing pads/drills/sparring. Outside of that I do 3-4 hours on my own on various techniques I learned during these classes + random training on punching bag and shadow boxing. That makes about 6-8 hours of pure boxing a week.

Now I need a fitness regimen. Right now I'm doing 3 miles run each morning, and compound strength training mondays, wednesdays and fridays, low rep high intensity. So at the moment its not really boxing specific, it's just what I'm used to from before I started boxing.

I can train for 2-3 hours a day 6 days a week, I just need tips on how to fill in these hours

Thanks for the advice, but I live in Norway and not planning on moving to the US. I already go to university and the reason I still have all this time is because my home, university, and the gym are all within 20 minutes distance from eachother so commuting is very easy. Also, I still live with my parents and have no job duties, and I plan on keeping it like that for the next 2 years so I can train.
