I said 'fake the elbow up' up there. I meant to say 'get that elbow up' (when turning the hook over)

It's what I did and loved as a young man, my pleasure to help out..

Most people go to the movies, party or hangout when looking to have fun. We'll hit the gym to throw some fists for such pleasures..... Rockin'

See if you can come up with 5 variations............. Rockin'

        1) Immediately Nod head down so his hand connects with the top front part of my head, hopefully breaking his hand (how they used to in bare fist days) followed immediately from that position (can see his groin) with a Holyfield special: which is a low blow and a head butt at the same time so (im southpaw) basically a bolo like punch to the groin while diving in with my head like Holyfiled does (after the head down immediate defense)

        1) If cheating isnt allowed drop/duck with half a front block and a jab to the chin on the way down and cross to the chin (upwards getting full leg drive

        2) parry it to the right as I slip left then hit him with a left cross from a new angle and a right shovel hook.

        3) Front block + lean back then jab cross hook or if he starts pulling his arm back first a simple jab cross

        4) Pivot right as I throw a right hook to his exposed chin, then follow with a left cross

        5) Slip left as I throw a right hook over his shoulder, left cross from new angle, then right shovel hook to the chin

          what's a shovel hook?

next, how would you counter your counters if you were the opponent?

Hey Alex try "bending your wrist" with the hook on the heavy bag!! Let me know how that works out for you?

no.# 2 is unbelieveable, not sure its physically possible! Must be the Beetle Bailey move!

I was actually trying to get him started envisioning, not only the moves but the moves that come after. I've always been one to think that visualising and playing bouts out in your mind can help a great deal, but ofcourse it's only what happens inbetween the bells that counts. Still, I liked the 'meditating' with my eyes closed just relaxing, before the bout, playing the fight out how I thought it should play out. I remember playing bouts out in my mind as I went to bed, the moves being properly executed in slow motion. The mind is an amazing thing......... Rockin'

Thats a really awesome exercise to speed up learning thanks for that rockin really cool idea!

A shovel hook is a cross between a hook and an uppercut aka a hookercut, gets its name from being a similar movement to throwing sand in a shovel over your shoulder.

                1) Id push/post my right hand onto his head so he couldnt butt me or groin shot me then, left uppercut him in that slightly bent over position, or if he straightens up another cross but this time to the solar plexus to catch him out, and a right hook to follow.

                1) Pivot right while throwing the right hook to counter and to get out of the way of the weak jab and the powerful follow up cross, then hit him with a left uppercut from the new safe angle. (left hand will be up during pivot incase the jab gets there fast)

                  2) Drop down fast while blocking my left side, then throw a my own loaded right shovel hook that hopefully gets to him first, if it doesnt his left shovel hook will either catch me early without gathering mush speed or hit me as im rising up taking some of the edge off teh shot, it is also likely to skim off my right arm, then follow with a very short left cross (imperfect cant think of a better idea)

                    3) Lean back with a front block and follow up with a x2 jab and a right hook, allowing the right hooks momentum to pivot me to the right.

                    4) Duck and pivot with him (pivot left) pivot a little further than he did, then using the pivots momentum and the leg drive from being ducked down, throw a cross to the solar plexus a right hook to the floating rib and another left cross to the chin as I come back up. (Best practice ducking and pivoting at the same time)

                    5) Block n drop down, left cross to the liver (should connect super hard as he rotates his liver into my fist when he throws the cross, and I can get full leg drive due to my legs being bent, follow up with a right hook to the body, and another left cross to the chin.
