  • "Mexican" Double-End bag workout

I would say I'm a fast learner, but I have yet to learn how to use the "Mexican" Double-End bag.

Anyone know a good workout for it? Like a 15 minute one.

Getting in the gym and a trainer will do 10x more for you than anybody on here.

Start with the basics & get a rhythm before moving onto slips & putting combinations together, do not neglect your footwork.

    Go to like 3.50

Would you say hooks/uppercuts are a little advanced to find your rhythm in?

^^ What dan_cov just said. A trainer will show you how to use it, if not find a different coach.

Don't try hooks or uppercuts just yet. work the jab , 1-2 then maybe a hook, but you have to have the timing right. If not you'll just hit air.

Mexican one's the peanut shaped one isn't it?
In that case, it should be a little slower than a traditional double end and also allow for digging into the body.

mehoe - u at champion fit (JJL)? you ever run into versatile?

There is a problem with translating what mosley is doing to explaining a "Mexican" double end bag workout. Mostly because his bag is too loose. I have spent thousands of hours in Mexican gym, in SoCal and Arizona, and the bag is almost always much, much tighter than that. There is, I suspect, lots of videos out there of Chavez, barrera, marquez, etc...hitting these bags, as I have seen it filmed many times.
To be honest, I am uncertain of the value of having the bag strung so tightly, as I think it encourages some bad habits, though the aforementioned fighters have done alright.

Like I said in my post, the only "Mexican" double end bag I know of is the peanut shaped one that's like 2 double end balls combined. The peanut double end bags I've seen were actually hung much more loose than a lot of standard double end bags.

I agree with you on the preference for loose vs tight. There's a vid of Roy Jones Jr sharing a double end bag with a couple other boxers from a few years ago and in the video it's hung so tight that it has almost no swing - this is a bad thing in my opinion.

When on the double end bag, I like to build combos and add head movement.
For example - start off with jab-slip, then 1-2-slip, 1-2-3-shield, 1-2-3-4-weave (sometimes finish with a hook), 2-3-2-weave (sometimes finish with another 2).
If the bag's hung too tight, it's not going to swing much, it'll stay pretty much attached to my gloves as I punch, and I won't get to work on the head movement.
