I know im just a starting boxer and the sparring partners i have faced is only ppl with 1-10 amature fights, so for me to say my "technique" is working would be a ****** statement,

23-05-2012 i will be giving a chance to box with a previous danish junior master he won something called DM, a few years back, age 17-19 he is now 23 and is training a boxing fitness team,

and if i beat him, with my "technique" what would your advice be ??
Sparring isn't about beating someone or being beaten, it's not a fight. It's a chance to work on things and get ready to fight.

However, what you need to remember is, this guy is a previous junior champion and you've been boxing for a couple of months, he isn't going to be trying his hardest against you - he's there to help you. If you best him, then good work, but don't get carried away, he won't be fighting at 100% against someone of your experience.

As for what to do, listen to your coach. The hands down style is working because your either sparring with good boxers who are holding back, or beginners who can't exploit those holes yet, when you come up against someone who knows what they're doing and is giving their all, you'll start getting hit a lot more easily than if you had your hands up and had learnt to defend yourself.

I used to get pissed off when my trainer would tell me to stand sideways as opposed to standing square it felt so awkward but I worked on it and to the point i didn't have to think about it now I rarely get hit with as much body shots as I used to. Your trainers telling you to keep you hands up for a reason there will come a time where you will come up against a fighter with superior speed and he will make you pay for keeping your left low even Roy jones payed for keeping his left down johnson caught him clean on the top of his head and it was over

I really love this forum. and i love your feedback keep it up

i'm starting to see there is no way around it, hands up or hands downs, i need to learn them both to even call my self a boxer.
when i get more experience i can pick how i want to fight.

but the best for me right now, would be just to stick with the basics right ?

this might be a ****** question but...

              is it to late ?
am i to told to start with boxing now, if i really want to make something out of it, ?

maybe you could give me some examples of some guys who made it start at my age ?

anyways thumps up for your honesty im really glad i found this site !

To the bolded, yes, 100%. You'll have to work to get more comfortable with it, but work on keeping your hands up and working like that. Learn how to pick shots off on the gloves, parry etc. Then start working on your slipping, bobbing and weaving, then when you've got it all down, you can start playing around to see how well keeping your hands down works etc. But for now, keep to the basics

As for being too old, nah. Although most of the top world class guys started at a very young age, a lot of guys started later. Sergio Martinez didn't start boxing until he was in his 20s, I believe (Although, competed in other sports beforehand). There was a British fighter who walked into a boxing gym at 22, having never been sporty before, and went on to win a minor world title (I can't remember his name for the life of me, was a Light-Heavyweight if I remember correctly).
