Watch and learn while you spar.

There's no tips except to spar spar and spar some more.

thanks guys. i just got a heavy bag and focus mitts for valintines day so i can train at home with those too. but i will take time to look at people sparring today. i dont have a mouth guard yet. i thought my money would be here. they make me spar without a mouth guard will they. im hoping my money will drop later so i can go buy one today. i want to get this first sparing out of the way so i know how it is and get past the jitters of the first time.

watch nothin', initiate the engagements. your eyes will learn to make your body react in time.

never spar without a mouthpiece. it happens quick and all of a sudden you're looking at a cracked smile for the rest of your life or shelling out thousands of dollars to fix it. if they ever tell you to spar without one simply smile and say you won't unless you're properly protected........Rockin'

You wont see many punches coming at first but after a few sessions it will be much better. Move your head a lot.. it may seem like wasted movement but its not and dont worry about what you look like.. and always use a mouth guard.. its more important then headgear. and the other guy is right.. u are much tougher then you think.

I question anyone who puts a total novice in the ring! It better be a controlled session, something like YOU throwing punches at a partner working defense only. If this is an open session (sparring) then your being used as a bag with legs. Unless you have a big mouth and act like a fool in the gym theres NO reason to put a green student in the ring to spar. I had very talented kids in my gym that never sparred for months. Being thrown in the fire is not a way to teach unless its a controlled session or as I stated you need a "lesson" on conduct. With three trips to the gym you know NOTHING about boxing so why participate in a spar session? Somethings wrong with this plan. Ray.

If you haven't been taught to block, slip and counter why spar unless its controlled? You spar when you have accumulated some knowledge to put your lessons to work with an opponent. Be carefull and don't let anyone take advantage of you, if your getting hurt your being disrespected. No need to for a green student to prove anything until they've learned something. Be willing is very important in this sport, being smart is also! I trained fighters since I was a kid, I've worked with champions of the world so I'm telling you from alot of experience ok. If this gym puts green kids in the "fire" to see what they got I can imagine they make plenty of other rookie mistakes too. be carefull! Ray
