Also, you don't drown while running/jogging. Both activities require fitness but only one of them requires you to learn to "swim" in order to perform the activity in the first place.

Also there is ways to negate impact on the joints. 1) Don't jog on the pavement, and use the treadmill. Try to learn to jog off your front foot/toes instead of stomping with the back foot.

    Jogging>> Swimming for me.

It takes nearly as much patience to learn front/mid foot striking when running as it does to learn to swim. Strange, but its easy to box/skip on your front foot, but running is harder than I imagined.

I've been trying to banish the heel striking for a while, but its tough when running down hill.

Not if you are after a thrill ;o) get up to about 47 mph on some of the longer decents around here.
As for tidal issues etc and current it can be harder to track progress but if you swam in the sea for a month gaurantee you will be better once back in the pool as long as you are strict with yourself.

Pools are really a large part of your delight and they offer a cooling ambience wherein you can refresh yourself and get rid of irksomeness.I like swimming, its a great form of exercise and keeps your weight down.

I run and I dont really like swimming but swimming has a LOT more advantages when you think about it:

          - You're working your entire body including your shoulders
          - Less demanding on the joints & less chance of injury
          - It's more physically demanding and would probably get you in better shape (try running for 1km, and then compare that to swimming 1km and you'll see what I mean)
          - You would develop speed & power from the resistance water gives you
          - It would teach you better breath control since you cant just breathe whenever you want to like you can in jogging (this is good if you fight competitively since breathing through mouthguards can be a b*tch)

If I was boxing seriously I'd probably take up swimming over jogging

The only "disadvantage" to swimming is warming up after your swim. People tend to over eat after swimming since the body is trying to warm up. So long as you take a hot shower (or warm up some other way) or are disciplined about your meals you'll be fine I do both when miami weather allows it...

Both exercises are good because both are good for fitness and weight lose. I do both exercises daily in the evening. Everyone should do these exercises.
