Saying it's for "the money" is total b.s.. With the time he took to prepare for the fight he could have gone to work (even its it was fast food) and have made four times as much money if that's what his family truly needed. He did this for himself. "The money" is just one of those excuses we make to justify our actions. The damage you take in a fight will more often than not cost you more than $100 in the long run, even if your medical is paid. With that said, doing it for the bravado is perfectly legitimate, IMO.

Well he did it for $350, My guy won... I have to say I'm very proud, he won essentially using the one two... there were knees, elbows and uppercuts, but all in all the one two was his bread and butter and got him through the fight. There were iffy moments, he often rushed in ricky hatton style, hands down chin up, and the opponent started timing it. My guy got dropped but recovered, got to the second round and the opponent was a bloody/puffy mess and gassed, my guy was winded but recovered very well in between rounds. Turns out my guy is actually pretty good on the ground too... he got out of a rear naked choke and a rear mount. (the opponent was crazy tired during the rear mount though)

One of the things i pushed is that if he got his guy hurt, not to rush in and throw bombs at gloves, but to work his combos and his leg kicks and body shots, and pick his punches...
this happened and should have ended the fight, he landed a 5 punch combo, two knees, a devistating leg kick, and the ref didnt' stop the fight until my guy just pushed opponent to the ground and began a barrage of hammer fists and elbows. This was probably a 30-40second sequence that shouldn't have gone more than 10seconds.

Unfortunately the opponent had to go to the hospital, with a concussion, a few deep cuts, a few minor cuts, and his eyes were pretty puffy/shut. I think its probably just a precaution and some stitches, but it does remind you of the reality of the sport. He was a warrior, and had as much heart as my guy, unfortunately the ref didn't stop it, and his corner was too stubborn to throw in the towel (probably because of how well he was timing my guy coming in.)

My guy has a McDonalds style job, but it barely pays for ****, so every extra dollar to him is a big deal... But to be brutally honest, I think the "he needs the money" thing was to encourage me to get on board, I think he loves to fight, and he needs the money, but they knew there would be no way I'd hop on board with such short notice without pulling at my heart strings a bit.

And lastly, Thanks for everyone that posted in this thread. It helped keep me from feeling overwhelmed, and I pushed the cardio like most of you said, and it really did play a role. Especially going into that second round.

The promotor came over and congradulated us, said it was very exciting and set the tempo of the rest of the evening, and offered us a fight on the next card in 3 months. My fighter said "yeah, i'm ready to go right now" ... lol adrenaline... I said I want a few days to just enjoy it and I'll think about it... Even though he won, he's still not very good, but he seems to be a quick study.

I'm hoping he learned to stop f&ckin running in without at least a jab, and to tuck that chin...

I'll know in a few days when i check up on him.
