He asks me to come take a look at the kid. 20 Yr old Light Heavy, a bit out of shape, tough as nails, no quit in him, determination and desire. Problem is, terrible ground game, terrible puncher, terrible kicker. Slow and awkward as well. He's 0-3going against an 0-0 debut bar brawler type. He's never been KO'd, but he's gassed and been TKO'd late in each of his fights.

In 2 weeks there isn't enough time to do much but give him a few different ways to win, and a few different ways not to lose.
In your opinion, what might give this kid a chance? What should he be focusing on?
mma is just full of cases like this yet people prefer mma to boxing?

      Here is my thoughts.

Take centre & keep the guy at range/on the outside. He sounds like a guy who easily is frustrated and will shoot.

Stay at range & everytime he is in range, use the front-kick/jab, pick him off & keep it long until he gets desperate.
Little front-kicks to his lead leg will make him get desperate.

When he shoots, lead arm first on his head & control him or when at mid-range (very easy but very overlooked) underhook (one under, one over) & twist 90 degree's (see Bas Rutten/Fedor)
      Use your hips.

Should put you in side control, use elbows, arm-triangle or whatever.

MMA is an evolving sport and more rounded.
I have boxed for well over a decade & consider myself a diehard fan yet I'd be bull****ting if I said I wasn't still learning.

I prefer boxing personally, but its kind of like a fine sipping whiskey vs just doing shots of JD or R&R. Both will get you drunk, but one takes a bit longer and is a little more for the sophisticated taste.

If i'm in the mood for knockouts and brutality and I want it to happen fast -MMA
If I'm in the mood for a knockout and brutality, but I want to savor every moment leading up to it - boxing.

            ---
Back to my fighter - weigh in is tonight, with any luck his opponent will be stuck in traffic and my guy will get the win by default. (Well he may not get the W, but he'll get the extra cash that he would have gotten if he got a W)Other than that, things are coming together better than they should have, I think he's got a chance, albeit not a good one, there is a chance.

Fights Tomorrow Night - I'll let you guys know what happens...

$100 to show up - $250 if he wins... Other incentives for Fight of the Night, KO of the Night, etc...

For anyone concerned, my guy's medical is covered.

If he's doing it for the money, he's an absolute fool. Anybody fighting with an 0-3 record that still gets in there is doing it for the love of the game.

This is probably a more accurate statement.

I think he loves the sport and loves doing it, and I think he's in a world where $100 really helps him out.

I thought it was on the low side, and would have told him to ask for more, being the replacement fighter and all, but he's not the brightest cookie.

All in all though, I've actually really enjoyed this last couple weeks, Tonight is fight night, I'm ready for it to be over, but I have enjoyed myself.
