  • 4th time Sparring

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7fMvJmBcw8

First I'd just like to go ahead and say that last time I sparred I did much better than this but it still wasn't quite what it should be. I know what to do, how to throw punches and how to move and all that..but when I get in the ring(especially against someone that's got a bit of weight on me) I just freeze up and don't really throw many punches and when I do they're sloppy. I know more experience will help fix these things in time, but I'm just wondering if by watching this video anyone from here could give me some advice on how to loosen up and not hesitate so much.

    Thanks.

First work on your conditioning, you look weak man. You need some muscle, strenght in you. Then work on boxing basics. Focus on footwork and movement. Also practice your combos on the heavy bag.

Once you do all of that you will gain warrior confidence and feel more willing to engage. More self esteem = more confidence in yourself.

You know if you take out the ****y ass stuff you said in the beginning of your comment you probably wouldn't have come across as a ****.

obviously someone without much experience is going to be a little afraid of getting hit by someone nearly 2 weight classes up. I'm a lightweight sitting at 135, and despite what you see from the video I do have a decent amount of muscle. I know what to do outside the ring, I do okay with combos on the heavy bag and my footwork isn't too bad either. I was just looking for some advice on how to loosen up and not hesitate as much.

Sorry for being harsh. I just saw that and instantly thought of Floyd Mayweather who I ****ing hate.

        Sorry for the ****yness..

Another tip, don't spar with heavier opponents. Specially not at this point bro.

So your hesitation has a reason.. you were fighting a guy two classes above you. Don't do that just yet. Keep fighting people your weight so you build your confidence up. If you keep fighting bigger people you will grow into a hesitant and afraid fighter.

It's alright I understand the harshness, I have a bit of an attitude at times so I kinda spit back a little.

Anyway, nearly all the people at the gym are heavier than me..But I'll definitely talk to the coach and see if we can find a few people much closer to my weight.

how long have you been training for? and did your sparring partner had about as much experience as you?

The few punches he landed on you didnt seem like they hurt so you can try to throw some 1-2s a lil bit or try to jab a lil bit more when you see him getting closer. And even if you do get hit a lil bit he doesnt seem like a power puncher anyway

I've been training for 7-8 months now I think. Though most of that time the coach we had didn't really teach us much..nice guy and all, great boxer, but he just wasn't a trainer.

The new coach is doing a long better as far as teaching us and keeping us in shape. So idk how exactly that factors in with the rest. The guy I was sparring didn't have a LOT of experience but he had a bit more than me from what I know about him.

Completely normal to be timid early on when your sparring. Ring confidence comes with time and experience it's as simple as that, keep at it and just keep your self as well conditioned as possible and your hardwork will pay off.

Dude just keep getting in there. Start to punch in a way that gets your opponents respect if you know what I mean. Really stick that jab. Your footwork looked pretty good stayed in position. Keep on getting in there it takes some rounds in there but its where you really put it all together.

                    Good luck man.
