thx ...been a gym rat most of my life...started at 15..was a personal trainer at 20...was sedentary from 35 to 40...and then just before I turned 41 I got more serious than ever. Took up boxing at 44 and started sparring twice a week with a guy I met in my gym who was 35 and boxed pro. He was way better than me of course and could have done me in when-ever he wanted...but never abused his dominance...we pulled up the punches some and still had exhausting workouts. I still bench and squat 3 plates...and have decent cardio for an old man.

Younger guys are always asking how I do it...usually they think I'm 20 years younger. Just before I turned 41 I said *** it...I'm not getting old and never looked back. I can find 1 of a million excuses to take it easy and not go to the gym most days...but then I just go and do it and push as hard as I can and get it done. I'm going to try to keep with it as long as I can.

    Thx for the encouragement.

    Dan...

You sound like my old man. He is 56 and a marathon runner and a rower. Ripped to ****, still the fittest man I know.

Thx...all my respect to him. Guys like him keep me motivated.

Holy crap I am 23 years old and can only do like 35 push ups in a row lol

in my pushup prime i could smash out a hundred pushups with hockey pads on. they wouldn't be perfect, but they certainly wouldn't be poor enough to get called out on it.

i was probably 16 or 17 or 18 years old and no more than 185 or so when i could do that.
and playing reasonably high level scholastic athletics and in the summer i worked as a guide kayaking in the ocean 3-6 hours each day and lugging and cleaning boats for the rest of it (often towing people who could not keep up or were having trouble with the wind, sometimes two at a time, for miles )
in the winter i played hockey at 5 in the morning and took a cold shower in a dank locker room . and no, that's no joke or embellishment.
        played lax in the spring.
in the fall i went twice a week to the boxing gym with some guys i played hockey with, mostly just for conditioning and for fun.
looking back, i was in phenomenal shape. i'll probably never be that guy again.

in college i used to do hundreds each day when i wasn't resting, but i gained a lot of weight from lifting weights [and eating and drinking like a college kid my first couple of years] and it got a lot harder to go for really high reps. id usually do sets of 50 and feel like i was getting a lot of work out of them. most importantly i'd be out of breath and feeling stiff and pumped by the end.
probably 220 at my heaviest lifting weights, but lb for lb nowhere near as strong as i was when i was an athlete

today i'll smash out 50 before my shoulders//sockets start to get sore. probably a lot more if they feel strong and i don't have to lock them out.
215-220 lbs now. been as heavy as 242. no business being 240, to be honest ^^

when i was a kid - 12/13 years old, my old man had me doing push ups and sit ups every night. i could do 100 pretty easy, i was built like a rattle snake so lifting my own body weight wasnt really a challenge

I've done 130 straight off in under two minutes. The last thirty took a good portion of that time to do though.

Never really tested how many I could do without a timeframe.
