  • Eye Floaters From Sparring

I'm a bit green in my training and wear headgear during our sparring session. I took a shot that was unlike any other and after about an hour I saw a web dangling in my vision. I was checked out by 2 eye docs and both told me my eyes are fine but that i might have had a PVD (Posterior Vitreaous Detachment)

It normally happens in old people but can be brought on by trauma. Its been about 2 weeks and the floater is still there but not quite as bad as when I first saw it.

Most of what I read said many of these fade with time either out of vision or the brain learns to adapt and you dont see it as much.

In your guys boxing experience have you ever had these? And if so how long did it take before you didn't notice them.

I work on a computer all day so it kinda sucks always seeing it flying around on my screen. Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear about that injury any thing related to vision is pretty scary for boxers..To some extent you can condition to take a punch but the Eyes there's really nothing you can do to help their.

Just make sure you keep tabs on it, if the cobweb gets larger and starts to look like a curtain in your vision along with random flashing lights it may be sign that the PVD has progressed into a retinal tear/detachment. If this does happen go and get it reassessed just to be on the safe side.

Sounds like an absolute nightmare mate. I've heard of lads taking a knock and losing their entire memory of the event and following hour or so but nothing like this.
I hope you make a full and swift recovery and it doesn't put you off too much! However, I would be very careful when sparring in future and make sure your partner knows of this incident....which I'm sure you will anyway.

I appreciate the feedback guys, but man thats kinda crappy that noone else has had these eye floaters. Maybe not many others are dumb enough to spar with bad eyes like me (I am near sided and wear contacts).

I dont think i'm worried about getting back in there again, just more along the lines of this annoying floater going away so I dont have to constantly see it on the computer anymore. As for my follow up ive got one in a week to reasses and make sure everything is still in order. I have had the flashes you're talking about but only at night in a very dark room which I have been told is a symptom of the PVD.

I talked to a few guys in my gym that said they have seen floaters before that they will pass sometimes they take a few weeks or a month. I guess I just wanted to see what others healing times were. I guess it can be different for everyone.

it goes away. Otherwise every professional would have quit long ago with the kind of blows they have taken to the head. Boxing is a rough sport but in hockey and football some people forget those guy have major league concussions.

                Eye Floaters

Eye Floaters can be an early sign of detached retina. If it persists you should go to an eye doctor. It is a painless test. I just had it done. Basically, you just stare into some bright lights of various colors.
