I'm 5'8'' and weigh 144 pounds and want to drop down to around 135-140. I work out every other day and jump rope for 15-30 minutes when I do. My workouts consist of push-up's, sit-up's, pull-up's, squat's with 10 pound weights, jump-rope, and punching the bag. My work-out's are decent, but not great. I slack off during the workouts, and take 2-3 minute breaks between each set. I want to actually push myself harder though, but somehow can't get into that mindset. I want to get any laziness out my system and give workouts my best. So I'm wondering how I can do this, or how some of you push yourself in the gym. What do you guys do to get over laziness, and to stop thinking negative when you work out. Any help/advice would be helpful. Thanks!

How to Push Myself

Do you talk to friends between breaks ? maybe that gets you lazy. I doubt you are forced to workout, so you need to remind yourself you are there to put in work. Good luck with your training

The best advice i can give you is listen to music you really can feel, i love undeground hip hop and some of the lyrics are really deep, it keeps my mind off how tired or how much pain im in when im working out.

In my opinion to a certain extent you either have it or you don't I was lucky enough to be blessed with this mindset but, when times get hard and you need inspiration I know this sounds a little cliche but, I usually chant the names of boxers who worked hard in real life or, just think them to myself. Fighters like Marciano, Frazier and Hagler.
Another tacitc that works wonders for me is our gym is lucky enough to have it's own ring so I face that when doing exercises and every time I "sit up" or jump for the "burpee" I see that ring and all the benifits it will have if I can push myself and that spurs me on. (If your gym does not have a ring a fight poster on the wall can be helpful too).

What Barnburner said can help, what also helps me is thinking of guys I've fought, and fights I've lost at national titles, and fights I want to win in the future, like qualifiers for overseas etc
I also have my trainer abusing me if I don't push myself so that helps too.

What's your diet like? You mentioned that you are trying to cut weight, but you still need calories to complete the workout, especially if you are going all out.
Stay away from sugary foods and simple carbs (white bread, white pasta, white rice). Or at least stay away from these foods a couple of hours before working out.
Ingest protein and complex carbs as your main sources of energy. A light healthy complex carb snack an hour to 1/2 an hour before working out. A light protein meal 2 hours before working out.
These won't only help you go all out during the workout, but can help cut weight too. And in a healthy way.

I dont know if your boxing or not but either way it comes down to this, HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT! Nobody is going to speak magic words that make you do whatever it is you do. If you really want it then man up and go get it. Especially in the boxing world, aint a damn person gonna hold your hand through it. Man up!...............Rockin'

@bg0
I text with friends in between those breaks :P
@Klemman
My diet consists of pretty much anything. I don't binge on sugars, but I also don't cut them from my diet. I've tried to stop eating candy and junk food, but I eat them every once in a while. I drink water as much as possible and have completey cut out soda from my diet. I drink water, juice, and milk. Agan, I eat pretty much anything. I don't overdue it, but I'm not as healthy as I should be.
@Rockin' and everyone else.
Thanks for the advice! I train for boxing and that's a major reason as to why I'm trying to cut down in weight. I wanna get faster and leaner.
