Trying to tone/build up muscle while dropping weight?

Basically i am trying to bulk up my upper body and also lose a bit of weight on my upper legs/backside (the only 2 places were i really have any). My diet is 2.5k cal consisting of fairly healthy stuff + protein shakes..

I am doing a lot of cardio and heavy lifting over the past few weeks. I am just wondering if its counter productive and if i should focus on heavy lifting and then try cut?

Has anyone had any experience of trying to lose weight + gain in other areas or is it even possible?

are you trying to bulk up or have steady muscules? If your trying to look all jacked up then lifting high amount of weight with low reps is best bet. If you want definition and keep muscules good like most boxers do then lift low amount of weights but with high reps.

well you cant build muscle while losing fat but you can get stronger. switch to a stregnth program. also weight lifting is THE best way to loose fat, so you may not be bulking up but it will help with slimming down

In my experience it was easier to lose fat when I stopped attempting to build or even maintain muscle mass.

I've read articles which say that the more muscle you have, the easier it is to lose fat. But 1) even top bodybuilders lose muscle when dieting for competition and 2) if it's hard to lose fat without losing some muscle, I would think that it's even harder to gain muscle and lose fat.

I wouldn't worry Kelly, you look pretty hot in your av and I don't think muscles look good on a woman.
