I'm sorry dude, but it just isn't good advice. That much work with increasing weights for punch outs puts a lot of stress on the lower back and joints of the elbows and shoulders. Unnecessary stress for something that really isn't merited in an effort to increase speed. And I call it like I see it. In my first year of training I did do punch out drills with weights and ended up ****ing my back, and now more years in, with the advice of a slew of trainers, sports doctors, physiotherapists, all basically telling me it isn't wise...I am comfortable with it. It leads to injuries. Which brings me to my point, that you might be a bit fast and loose with your advice, and possibly dangerous.

I know you don't have much actual boxing experience, and I've never tried to dig on you for it, or was one to jump on you about your vids as so many others have. That's just not how I roll, and I certainly am not going to put up a vid in some kinda e-penis war. C'mon now, that's just silly.

I will tell you that I am a boxer, like many others on the net, who trains in a gym and fights regularly, who still has lots to learn, but has learned a bit a long the way also. I try to help where I can, give a bit back, and if I see something I don't agree with, I'll call it out. It's not personal. But I'm human and will react when I see someone going off...usually with a lol, I just can't help it.

But any way, no hard feelings man.

I do have back problems kinda but ive had them all my life being tall.

recently ive been stretching my ham strings alot more and have beeen able to use my hips alot more when bending over to pick stuff up and slipping. I find that with just boxing makes my hamstrings tight naturally and makes my back sore but by stretching them regularly my back pains gone. as long as i stretch regularly i havent had any back problem even though i punch with weights shadow box with 16's hit the bag do shoulder exercises and jog 6 miles 4-5 times a week.

I would definitely recommended stretching and warming up before any weighted/non weighted shadow boxing as well as stretching afterwords. the walking would be the warm up then after about 45 min - an hour of shadow boxing/ shoulder exercises walking around the woods i put the weights away and go for a 6 mile lap around the lake on the path.

even if your not going to shadow box with weights its not a bad idea to bring some weights and walk around the woods while doing weighted shoulder exercises (for your delts and rotator cuff)as a warm up for your jog.

                1. work on form. make sure your jabs and crosses are nice and straight and u dont raise your elbow too soon. make sure your hooks and uppercuts are nice and short. throw, dont push your punches. aim before you fire, once a punch is thrown its thrown. dont try to aim it after u let it go. work on this by shadowboxing alot.

                2. get relaxed, your muscles should only tighten at impact. until the punch lands on your oponent you should be completely relaxed. practice by more shadowboxing.

                3. get flexible, always stretch out before and after each workout. being flexible is a very important yet overlooked aspect of punching speed.

                4. punch fast when training! keep a few rounds shadowboxing when you work on form but take a few focusing on speed too. punch as fast as you can and in combinations, look at pacquiao shadowboxing for an example. same thing applies to the bags.

                5. punch alot! the muscles need to get used to the movement of throwing a punch, once they do the movement will become natural and much faster. do punch out drills every couple of days and make sure to always punch in combinations.

                6. do some light resistance training, key word light. shadowbox with 1-3lb dumbells focusing on speed. use resistance cords aswell, they are much more effective with straight punches downside is they dont do much for the other punches. so combine resistance cords and light dumbells for best result.

                7. use the double-end bag. this will get your eyes used to fast moving targets and allow you to react quicker when u see an opening. having great reaction time and hand-eye coordination is just as important as the speed of the punch itself.

                8. use the speed bag. this will help your reaction time, hand eye coordination, loosen up your shoulders and get your hand used to moving constantly. i felt great progress in handspeed when using the speed bag on a regular basis. i wish we still had one

remember handspeed takes alot of time so be patient, dont try to do too many of these exercises at once. focus on a few things at a time, take your time and build. work on one thing until you peak, then move on to the next. once u have benefited from all these exercises u can mix it up from week to week. also make sure not to overlook other aspects of boxing other than handspeed.

                good luck souljah

There is some excellent advice in this thread. It's not one thing but the combination of many that will help speed; punching with light weights, stretching, etc. I found that sheer repetition, throwing punches at various points in the day, helps tremendously. It gets me funny looks sometimes at work but it does the trick. My hand speed is much faster with that repetition than it was before I practiced that much.
