Jogging is useful for losing weight, keeping it down, and building overall cardio. It has it's place. As an amateur I use it myabe once or twice a week or more depending on if I need to lose weight or whatever.

Jogging does help overall conditioning.
Jogging an incredibly large distance constantly will be a detriment to your fitness. Be sure its a distance where you feel good at the end and not totally drained. If you are drained your probably into muscle failure. Running beyond your limit happens often and people don't realise they are doing it. They no they are tired but push too far and your muscles/conditioning doesn't improve and can lead to tears and injury.
A good thing to do is a 3-4k run and every kilometre do a 50m sprint, then continue to jog. this is good to draw out reserve energy for a limited time and gets you used to having energy afterwards to continue. Ever see a boxer do a good flurry then get gassed?
And do the same in sparring depending on your style of course. Allows yourself to be pushed with a good effort but without getting gassed and being able to finish the round.
