I do HIIT and lift weights, I heard jogging long distances eats at your muscle, especially if your running low on glycogen stores, but honestly sometimes I feel like just hitting the road and running a good distance, I don't get it though will it truly eat away at hard earned muscle? and from a boxing standpoint, is it even worth doing it?

jogging helps your heart slow down.
the more long distance jogging you do the better you recover between rounds.

I believe long distance is useful but more for losing weight and overall CV efficiency.. I would suggest doing intervals as part of a longer run (I think it was suggested on Rossboxing somewhere) so you get the necessary sprint fitness for boxing as well as overall conditioning.
EDIT: and in my experience you will not experience noticeable muscle loss if you run.. but even if you do strength and muscle mass are not directly related

Hitting the bag and actually going into the ring and doing some rounds is a whole different ball game trust me...Jogging will help the conditioning to keep up with the rounds and bag hitting is just a preparatory for what you're trying to do to your opponent...everyone has a plan until they get gassed or hurt...you want to keep your heart rate good so that you can last and have the mentality to do what you have to do...I've seen some muscle heads get schooled by smaller guys and even get dropped lol Keep Jogging...Also watch what you eat to get muscles to...

There seems to be a view on this forum that HIIT is all that's needed for boxing and long jogs aren't important, but personally I don't see it that way. I think there's a place for both; jogging should make up the bulk of your running (IMO) and short HIIT workouts should be done a few times a week.
Boxers have been running long distances since forever and it's a major part of training. Yes, preparing for four two-minute rounds isn't the same as preparing for a fifteen rounder, but long runs build stamina - the more of it you have, the better.
All your favourite fighters run long distances and if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me. My own runs are usually about eight miles with twelve short sprints mixed in along the way. I think a lot of people prefer HIIT simply because they're too lazy to run long distances. If you're serious about boxing you can't cut corners, you have to put the long miles in IMO.

That's purely a matter of opinion and one I don't necessarily agree with. People tend to make excuses for why they don't like doing long runs, it's boring etc, that to me is just lazyness. As I said, I believe it's good to include both HIIT and long distance runs as part of your training, neglecting jogging is a way of cutting corners IMO.
