More important than where you aim your jab is how you set it up if your a southpaw. throwing the jab against an orthodox fighter when you are both lined up will usually result in a whole lot of glove, which can be useful if your only using it to blind him so you can fire your left hand. The problem with doing that is that it is very easy to counter the jab in a southpaw-orthodox fight and many trainers teach there orthodox kids to work off the southpaw jab making it hard to use effectively if you haven't had a lot of experience with it. Try to take a half step to your right and fire your jab to the outside of his head around his temple(that way if he slips outside you still catch his head, if he doesn't move his head you clip the side which rattles him, and if he messes up and goes the wrong way then you can use your straight left hand to punish him). Again I'll stress unless you are either much taller or much faster than your opponent the vanilla southpaw jab will likely not be very effective, you must use your feet to open up the punching lanes to throw it through.
