It's got nothing to do with how many fighters are in the UK. Each country doesn't get to send a fighter in each weight class.
There are 8 spots for each weightclass in Europe. So after Russia, Kasakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Bulgaria and a bunch of other eastern countries take most of those spots, you better PRAY that there are no other worthy fighters in Western Europe.
Put bluntly; you have a better chance of becoming the first female astronaut, who was originally a man, than qualifying for the olympics.

Hold on a minute, a country can send however many athletes they want to the olympics, especially as the olympics may be in England in 2012. Its not a matter of another country has a fighter so we cant send one in. In the last olympics every1 was moaning, in england, that we only had one young prospect to represent us in boxing, when usually we have at least 2 fighters competing. So anyone can make it. Plus i dont think u can judge some1, u dont know how good boxstarr is at boxing. He might have been told that he is definetly going to the olympics, for all you know. So quit all the ****ing gay sex change lines and the lame degrading of some1 who actually boxes, instead of just talks about it.

I was obviously joking about the sex change, so lighten up.

That being said, there IS a quota of 8 fighters from Europe in each weight class for the Olympics. The top4 from the European Championships qualify, and the last 4 spots are competed for in two qualifying tournaments, after the Euro championships take place. So check your facts please.
The reason Amir Khan qualified for the olympics, was because he won one of those qualifying tournaments! No other English fighter did, that's why he was the only English fighter in the Olympics. Plain and simple.

Besides, and think about this, how many Russians do you think would be sent in each weightclass? There'de be 125 fighters in each class, if every country could just sign up anyone they wanted. That is just a ridiculous claim...

Here's a link to the qualification rules for Athens 2004:

                      http://wwws.athens2004.com/files/cho...BoxingQual.pdf

                      It's a pdf. file....

Hope that clears up how hard it will be forEngland fighters to qualify for any given Olympic boxing tournament.
