I don't think the age you start boxing always matters. Look at Sergio Martinez and Mike Tyson for example.

I think a confident talentless hardworker can go pretty far in this game.
You're very Wrong. Just be careful before you get hurt real bad. Only then will you change your opinion.

SO many factors to take into account; natural talent, how much you put in, the right management, the right luck in your fights, the right luck compared to your peers etc.

there may be countless prodgies out there who never take up the sport cause there's no gym to go to, countless more may be in the gyms but not being spotted or not competing, countless people may be competing but just not having the luck on the day or being beaten by people who will go nowhere in the sport but jsut have a stylistic advantage over you.

Look at Tyson - pure, raw talent combined with (in the early days) and insane amount of work. Then look at Froch; he took up the game late, has no real like for the sport, and isn't exactly the most talented out there; but he has drive, heart and great work ethic.

So many things to take into account; just comes down to whats available to you, how you use it, sheer luck etc.

What everyone else has said and the fact that not everyone is willing to take punches to the head for a career when they can get another job which is much easier, you need to have the heart and passion for the sport.
