      Skills beat both, i have great handspeed, average power but a guy in my gym who had much better skills and slower hands just gave me a lesson yesterday. I think desire is the most important in boxing, that with skills can overcome everything.

      It's good to have power but if you don't have skills you won't be able to touch opponents with a good defense and footwork. With power only you can be a Miranda at best. With just speed you can go a lil bit further, like a Malignaggi. Most of the time fast fighters are guys with athleticism but also skills.

        His weight
        How much of his weight he can transfer into the punch
        The speed of the punch

        Less say for instance a 200lbs fighter can transfer 50% of his weight into the punch at a speed of 30 feet per sec then the momentum of that punch is 3,000 lbs feet per second.

        Now if a 150lbs fighter can transfer 60% of his weight into the punch at a speed of 33.3 feet per sec then the momentum of that punch is also 3,000 lbs feet per second.

        However the 150lbs fighter would (on paper) have an advantage as he could land his punches faster making them harder to evade. Of course the actual outcome of the fight would depend on the skills and durability of the individuals involved.

        It's no coincidence that the fighters with the best KO records mostly fought between middleweight and light heavyweight, it's because they generally have the best balance of speed, weight, and weight transfer.

        Think of it this way. Getting hit by a bus travelling at 10mph generates the same concussive force as getting hit by a car traveling at 50mph (although the car would cause more trauma). But it's much easier to see the bus coming and get out of it's way. Unless you are also the size of a bus LOL

        Damn! This dude knows his stuff..That was deep...Take notes everyone.

            answer me this, in the past 5 years or so, who in the boxing world utilizes power the best, and who utilizes speed the best?

            Speed = Pacman

            Power = ????????

            Speed & Power = Shane Mosley

              punchers are made, not born - there is no punching gene.
              that phrase was invented to make people feel more special than others it seems. or as jack dempsey puts it, because people forget the hard work put in when they are on the top of the hill.

              so, check your training regimine. you dont have to be a genius to get both speed and power. just study how the body can create each.

              to adress another subject, momentum only takes you so far. the knockouts tonight, were generally not too full of momentum but using more solid mechanics with a quick and sharp usage of the force generated by uncoiling.

              some great KO's tonight btw.

                I disagree J, I've seen kids walk into a ring for the very first time who can punch a lot harder than kids who been boxing for years.

                    disagree all u want, it will not necessarily prove that u are correct. some people gain a better awareness of how they move. some people gain proprioceptive skills to do that. that is why, what u mentioned, happens from time to time. some people start to get more physical from an early age, and this helps instill a certain knowledge of how to use the body.
                    i have taken good punchers, and made their punches faster, and more forceful.
                    i speak from experience teaching people. and there are a helluva lot of people who will agree with me.
                    and i know people who were unskilled, physically weak kids who now are people you wouldnt even want to insult let alone spar.

                      Of course it doesnt mean that I'm right, neither are you for that matter, this is all about opinions not been right. However, you said punchers are made and not borned, I do think genetics play a role on this. Go to a ****** grab three kids who are not necessarily agressive and never boxed before, do the same in Beverly Hills, and see who punches harder.
