I need some recommendations on good head gear. I noticed a few different styles. What are the pros and cons that you found with them. I heard that not too many offer excellant vision, but how about protection, fit etc... Thanks!

I use the Rival RHG-Pro headgear, myself. It's light, protects well, great visibility, doesn't spin around on your head when you get hooked (it's oblong-shaped, like your skull, instead of round like all the other headgear), and it's about half the price of the Winning gear.
Did I mention it's light? It's really, really light. If you do a lot of close work like I do, where you're slipping and weaving a lot and making your opponent miss only by a hair, it's really nice.
If you can afford Winning, get Winning. Otherwise my vote goes to Rival.

I bought my own headgear, better off having one that fits snug because when they slip in a fight you're ****ed. Once it slips you have to adjust, a decent partner will stop to let you adjust it but a twat (usually ones who can't box aswell) will see it as an opportunity. Once it's slipped once, you can't not think about it slipping, once you start thinking about anything you slow down. Simple. Headgear is far more important than just giving you head protection.
I went for the middle priced adidas adistar headguard. There's 3, the cheapest looked too weak, the moderate was the one I bought (about £50 - England) and the most expensive looked like competition and was too pricey.
The headguard fits perfect and doesn't slip, ever. The only problem is on the moderate priced guard they have ear covers which do deafen you slightly. It's not too bad though.
If you're looking to buy a headguard here's what I advise from my experiences;
i) make sure it fits, if its going to slip you might as well wear gym ones.
ii) do NOT go for cheek guards. Just a personal preference but I think they slightly obscure vision. I'd say just go for an open face guard.
iii) Money counts. Buy a cheap head guard and you've just bought a **** head guard. Obviously you can play the market, some makes are cheaper than others but generally if it's cheap, you'll know/feel why.
iv) make sure it has non-slip material on the inner.
Hope this helps.Last edited by JayCoe; 12-24-2009, 02:00 PM.
