Can I become heavyweight champion of the world?

Hey, My Name is Nathan (not a troll, not spam, dead srs). And Im a 17 year old from the atlantic part of Canada. I've always been facinated by boxing when I was a younger lad and had watched a Rocky Movie. But I never pursued to take it up for sport (Probobly have something to do with the only gym being 2 hours away and it being the only one in the part where I live).

But after recently watching a Mike Tyson documentary. It inspired me. And I believe that if I put in the hard work and believed in myself. Maybe I could make something of myself in the boxing world. Maybe even fight professionaly someday.

My athletic background?, Well I played basketball for a few years, but my main focus right now is weightlifting. I only started a year ago but without much guidance so only in the past few months had I made any real gains. Bodybuilding is #1 to me right now (Since im more focused on getting strong right now, which will help me later in boxing should I choose to pursue. But the foundation has to be there first). But I do have a pair of 16oz gloves and an 80lbs everlast punching bag. Im 6'6" and 185lbs.

Im interested in learning how to punch right, using the right footwork. Learning how to punch with both hands, working the bag effectively. I can post videos of myself doing this if some people wouldn't mind guideing me in the right direction, where to start and what not. (Not over doing it with cardio at the moment because too much will hinder with my weight training. Just learning the basics until I go to university next fall or the following where I will be much closer to the boxing school)

Im interested in watching boxing, but my lack of knowledge sometimes has me wondering if i'm actually watching a good fight, or a decent fight, or a great fight. I think with the more experience and the more I can learn about it. The easier it will be for me to watch and learn things as well as be more in sync with whats going on in the boxing world today.

Im a very bright lad who enjoys reading. So if there are any books you can recommend on learning about boxing. It would be appreciated. I know there are some at the boxing scene forum(I'm not allowed to post a link so just pm me) . But im kind of lost on where to start. I'm very motivated and dedicated in weightlifting. I have a positive attitude and I'm willing to work hard to be a success.

If anyone can help me out or if there are any more questions, just ask (:

You should go to a proper gym. Working out at home is not very good to do for a beginner. Having yourself as your coach is one of the worst things you can do.

You won't truly know if you like the sport and want to pursue it until you have actually gone through an entire true boxing work out, and stepped into the ring and actually sparred.

I know many tough kids and street fighters that thought they were all that, to step in the ring and get busted up and quit. Boxing is more then just stepping into a ring and throwing punches to knock someone out.

I have fighters down my gym that travel over 2 hours twice a week to come to the gym. You refuse to, which is showing a lack of dedication from the start. Maybe you should just stick with bodybuilding. This sport is about sacrifices, and you won't even sacrifice a small road trip..

But im not a "tough street fighter who thinks he's akk that". I know I can do the workouts. And I know its more than stepping into a ring and throwing punches to knock someone out. Why else is it called the science of boxing. Because im too poor to aford the gas money 3+ times a week is showing a lack of dedication?, How about when I get to university and I can get to their easily. Im just looking to learn as much as I can right now so I don't walk into the gym like a noob. Im already old enough that I don't need to start from the very basics and delay my progress so I wan't to learn a lot about it now. I don't even have the money to afford a membership. But your assuming I do.

Can I get someone who isn't closed minded to reply?

For as much as you know I could be getting bullied and want to pick of some of the basics to perhaps defend myself. Then develop these basics when I can go to the gym and then see if I have the passion to do it. I have the passion to learn as much as I can about boxing. Why is everyone hating?

I think you guys are getting the wrong impression of me. Im the type who isn't afraid of sparring or hard work. I want to work as hard as anyone else and not skip any steps in the process. I know that if im fully dedicated and motivated to something. I can achieve it. Right now is where I want to soak up as much information as I can so that I know what to expect and what im getting into. Knowledge is power. You can't go into weightlifting if you dont know what your doing and only workout chest or arms everyday. Thats going to set your progress back and you'll have to start all over. You should read about programs, how to do movements correctly, what you goals are. People who did what your trying to do. Everything.

You don't want to learn how to box. You want to be a boxer. And it doesn't work like that. If ya did, you wouldn't be making excuses..."I gotz no money. too far, I don't wanna look bad" bla bla. Right, because you're a special flower and the first person ever to have a hard time gettin there, or paying for it, or who is scared.

So yes, this is the reaction you are going to find on these forums, from most anyone who does box. Because they are that and nothing else, excuses.

There are a milion excuses to not walk in a boxing gym door, but only ever one handle opening it. And believe me, we've heard them all. So the short of it is, there is no preparation that will suffice. There is no alternative. There is only getting your butt to the gym, shaking a hand or 2, grabbing a rope, and beginning. From there, everything falls into place. You may love it. You may hate it. But then you'll be boxing. Learning.

Until then, seriously, go watch youtube vids. They'll do you as much good as postin askin for tips. Near ziltch. So yes it's a harsh reaction you're getting, but it's the truth. It's better you hear it, then not.

                Ball is in your court.

Notice other replies have been pretty much the same as mine.
Once again, GO TO A GYM, DO SOME SPARRING and then SEE IF YOU LIKE IT and KEEP GOING BACK AFTERWARDS.
Until then stop talking about the possibility next HW champion for fks sake
