  • When Does Fitness Become Dangerous to Your Health

    I have noticed something over the years that many ultra fit athletes die young from conditions like cancer and i don't know the stats.
    I was noticing that while exercise and fitness make us enjoy life more and feel better on a daily basis, some people take it too far and feel they can be even fitter and fitter and this error leads them to bad health. When we exercise there are more free radicals in our systems and too much breaking down our bodies leads to poor health.
    Just wondered what others thought about it. Is it definitely true that too much exercise kills us off.
    marathon runners are an example of this. endurance athletes are prone to this.

      By knowing your body and feeling those aches.

      Understanding recovery is just much as important as well as training. Knowing when to take it lightly and go ham.

        i agree. you need to eat well and sleep good. Recovery or the anabolic phase is as important as the catabolic phase. some people dont eat well and sleep well and on top of that they are driven to exercise without the other two factors.

          Nutrition/diet is just as important, if not more important than the physical side of training. "You are what you eat"

            Exercise is a form of hormesis. It stresses your body, blood pressure rises, free radicals are released and you body goes into repair and recovery mode. This is good. The same is true for radiation which can kick your body into a mode that prevents cancer. Arsenic in small doses makes your system stronger. That which does not kill you makes you stronger. Unfortunately, too much can actually kill you

                  when i didn't know much at all about fitness i used to run nearly every day and swim each evening and i was soooooo depressed. I hardly ate much at all and suffered insomnia and yet i thought it was good for me. the depression i had was intense. I now understand fitness after becoming a personal trainer. I realised all that aerobic exercise depleted my testosterone as too much exercise does and now i exercise a little and while i still suffer terrible depression i feel a lot better than i did back then.
                  The exercise i used to do made my insomnia worse. now i feel better and i do more resistance training and only a very little cardio and i feel better for it.

                    Hmm, the "research" found that if you are a working white man who also exercises, there are some risks - I bet they were unable to find working black men.

                    The fitness becomes dangerous when you don't know your limits and you don't use your brain. That is all.
