How to get a stronger punch?

I heard if you strengthen your legs (e.g legpress) and triceps, this can improve your punching power, is this correct?

Any muscles you can build will help make the punch stronger. But besides the muscles you need good technique and form. Use your legs and hips as leverage to the power coming out of your hand.

u can put in the work to build strong legs. but can u put in the work to use those strong legs?

dude, there is an easy answer and a tougher answer. either way, YOU have to do the work to make your punch stronger. and i dont mean just lifting weights - bodysculpting is not boxing.

so, just know that there is no magic formula(although there kinda is one).

      time plus effort/work = skill

First make sure you have proper technique and you put all of your body behind every punch.

Look at proffesional boxer, look at bruce lee...they had/have huge lats.

the punch comes from the lats, triceps and shoulders with recruitement of the chest.

60% of a good punch is from technique IMO, you can have all the power in the muscles but if you swing like a girl your not going to KO anything.

In boxing they teach us to perfect the technique, some of the heavyweight greats used to say that their trade mark punches came from perfecting the technique and seeing what came natural.

after a heavy bag session its always my shoulders/lats that are sore the next day.

              cant disagree more.

maybe 15%(at most) of the power comes/originates from the chest and upper back muscles.

majority of the power comes from the core and rotation of the hips

i thought the lats were part of your core isnt the lower back part of your core? i mean have you ever checked out their origin point? now can you think of any mucles that go from your butt to your arm?

id say lats alone contribute to atleast 15% of the power if not more in combination with your pec minor, serratus anterior, abs, brachii, triceps, legs and technique.

more importantly though is not to have giant lats but to have long lats that are wide from your sacrum, iliac crest all the way to your humerous. not just wide under your arm pit. the way to go about this would be close grip pull ups to keep as much of a range of motion as possiable not that you should stop doing all other pull ups but i would do at least twice the close grip then you do normal or wide. if you do lat pull downs close grip, rowing close grip. also i would reccomend that instead of bringing the bar to your chin take it to your chest or even mid section same with pull downs and rowing this will increase your ROM in all the diffrent hand placements.

u a PT(phys therapist)? or personal trainer of some sort?

the thing here is noit about muscle power, but rather getting power from the bottom to the top efficiently.

but, of course different boxing has different method. they should all have the same goal, however.

and yeah, a strong core is extremely useful, but being able to use the ground in conjunction is fundamental. which is why i cant believe i have not read about it in this thread. even the strongest guy standing on ice may not be able to even push a smaller guy down who is standing firmly on land.
