Truth. While clinching is ugly, it can be the last resort in terms of controlling the tempo of a bout, be it a sparring session or a title bout.

    edit-
Another thing, avoid clinching if your opponent is alot stronger...I see weaker guys always try to clinch on a strong guy and the strong guy will just slip out and land shot after shot.

the blueprint i use for beating a typical pressure fighter is as follows:

in the first round, especially the first minute or so, they will come out very hard and aggressive, so be prepared and dont get overwhelmed, stick your jab, keep your defence very tight, move side to side, stay off the ropes, basically just dont stop moving and constantly nail them with the jab and jab cross, occasionally drop in a lead right or a hook to mix it up, and if they do get close, tie them up or fire in an uppercut, then spin out and get moving again

do the same in the second round, but start to throw the odd three or four punch combo to assert your dominance, and dont stop that jab coming

continue this in the third round, by now if you have landed your jabs and lead rights with consistency and they havent had much success themselves, they may start to get tentative and not as aggressive, if they havent though and are still coming at you with enthusiasm, keep up your jab and move plan, but if you can sense they are getting tentative and not as aggressive, start driving in your jab and move forward on it, and let your hands go, if you can get them to move back you have got the fight, still be careful and dont brawl, but drive them back and start battering them with combos, moving off and attacking from different angles occasionally, if they keep moving back try and press for the stoppage

this coming from a fighter, who has a even record, or has lost more than he has won. if i were you guys the best advice would be whatever he says you do the opposite to.

if you knew anything about amateur boxing, you would know that records dont matter, especially when you are 15 years old, its the level of comp you have fought

i could have gone 6-0 if i had fought crap novices like lots of other guys but instead i beat a few novices and then took on better guys with good records, you are ultimateboxas alt anyway so you have....0 credibilty

Yeah, but how many of us have the great skills and great set of eyes that Juanita has??

So, it's not realistic to do what Juanita does. I mean, can you do it like Juanita does it?

How many people have good jabs, alot of pro fighters, ****, even elite fighters don't have great jabs.

When was the last time you saw a Holmes like jab or a Hearns like jab?

I think the hit and hold tactic is the best, Mosley did it the best, and Ruiz, please do not emulate Ruiz.

To beat a pressure fighter as a pro follow the advice here: Jab and clinch. It's cut-n-dry simple, jab a jab the way your coach tells you to throw it and clinch when the bastard figures out that its coming and dodges....you will beat a pressure fighter nfp. Now the main thing to remember is that the jab is the way to beat a pro; watch Vernon forrest beat up shane mosely, jab jab jab, hug hug hug.

If you're talking amatuer fights, you start clinching and you're looking at scratching an L DQ in your lil USA book. You want to win tournaments where you know you're facing a pressure fighter? Here's how it's done. Dip that lead shoulder low (conventional or left hander), step forward, and put your hips into it and drop that rear hand over the top in a forward-arching motion. Unless you're fighting someone who is 8 inches or more taller than you this is going to disrupt that *pressure* rythem, and catch them out of position. The body's proclivity for countering off balance aggression is to steady itself by using the arms. You use this method for coming forward (agains the pressure fight) and you will have an easy night because their head will snap back and your punches will be the ones inflicting noticeable damage. (amatuer!)
