  • cardio + calisthenics = foundation of fighting

I had this thought the other day that cardio and calisthenics, as fair as exercises go, are the foundation of fighting. If you don't do cardio you're absolutely screwed, and if you don't do calisthenics you're either going to be weak or have poor endurance.

Obviously it's not quite that simple, as just cardio and calisthenics aren't going to make you good. But I think they're a great first step, combined with nutrition, to becoming a successful fighter or athlete of any kind.

Not surprisingly, I've read dozens of times that mike tyson's daily routine had a heavy emphasis on roadwork and calisthenics.

yes, like pushups. Tyson claimed to do thousands every day, vic darchinyan claims to do 1500 a day.

I did 400 a day for a period of time and saw a dramatic increase in power and explosiveness.

I have to do more push ups now, I was too lazy to do them before.

If you do your pushups in low rep sets it might not seem as daunting of a task, instead of trying to do like 50 at a time maybe like 25 x 4 with 30 sec rests on your workout days.
