is it a good idea to spar someone who is 20 pounds + heavier than u? because i was thinking about taking up boxing and theres a gym near my house but they all 70kg + fighters and im like 59 kg.. ? how do i know? because i've trained there once and i got my **** beat up by a heavy weight.. the coach said it is goood that u r sparring w/ someone heavier than u because when it comes to fight night it be that much easier and u feel confident.. but man.. what's your thought on that? is that normal? or the coach is dumb? u hear story pacquioa spar with boxers that is heavier than him but u dont hear him spar w/ heavy weights..

a 59kg fighter can spar a 91kg (heavyweight) fighter if the 59kg guy has very good skills and experienced and is able to handle himself, but if you are just starting out then no its not a good idea
my fighting weight is 48-50kg with six fights and i generally spar with one guy who fights at 66kg with one fight (very strong with great skills for a dude with one fight) and a guy who weighs 56kg with no fights but is quite talented and is fighting soon
and i have another sparring partner from another gym who fights at 44kg who is 5-0
so if that gives you an idea

i can stand and go toe to toe and trade punches from smaller guys and guys slightly bigger than me like 125-145, but the bigger ones are somewhat different u can really feel it in their punches. But im still going continue, my trainers always ask after that if im hurt then i should stop, if i feel ok, then another one is up.

You want to spar with as many different weight classes as you possibly can. Sparing with bigger guys will get you used to taking hard shots and sparing with smaller guys will get you used to faster, more alusive guys.

sparring big people is fine as long as your not getting hurt bad doing it. youll take good shots from big guys or small guys it doesnt matter which, just be sure its not too much. one thing with fighting the big guys is that you will almost always have the advantage in speed. speed will neutralize their power if you use your eyes well. i loved fighting the big guys, most were just so slow. use your eyes and your speed, dont worry at all about trying to hurt them too much because big guys who have fought will have tasted much worse than you can deliver. just use the speed and let them taste the blood from inside of their mouths, youll be respected...............Rockin'

I weigh 55kg. And regularly spar with people twice my size and heavy hitters. But because I am experienced I can cope with it. You just dance around them. Jab in flurry and out again. They can not handle speed and make them chase you. You look good but do not get hit clean lol.

i'm a big guy, and we only have one other heavyweight in my gym. so i fight with a lot of smaller, faster guys, which keeps me on my toes. i only tag the smaller guys, no pop behind my punches, but i try to go faster u know? because those little bastards can slip my punches, so i try to work behind my jab, speed up my combinations and sometimes even fight on the inside with smaller guys, just to diversify my skills.
