Yea man my gym is terrible. Ray Oliveira was the trainer, you probably heard of him he was a very good fighter, fought Vernon Forrest, Vince Phillips, Ben Tackie, Ricky Hatton, Emanuel Augustus, etc. He had the gym running nice. But he had to leave for a while. Since he left the gym is a disaster. There is only 3 of us there now who take the sport serious and other than that it's just a bunch a hoodlums that hang out there and mess around. The 3 of us are the only sparring partners we got and we all know each other so well in the ring sparring isn't even interesting any more. Ray came back, but was so disgusted with the gym he said he dont think he even wants to run it again....

**** sucks to say the least.

There is another city about 20 minutes from where I live I think I might go to to train.

Manuel Ortiz one of the best Bantamweights of all time. Had never laced up the gloves and was a lorry driver, when he was invited to a amature boxing show to watch. One of the fighters pulled out, and Ortiz with no boxing background stepped in.

After this he would join a boxing gym and With-in a year, Ortiz won the Southern California Amateur Flyweight Title, the Golden Glove Title, and the National AAU title in Boston.

In the pro ranks Ortiz was a two time Bantamweight champion, and is considred one of the best Bantamweights of all time. On his first reign as being champion he made 15 defences of his Title before losing it to Harold Dade. He would reign his belt in his very next fight beating Harold Dade.

good idea. i have a gym within 10-15min walking distance of where i live, but unfortunately is sucks. or it used to suck it seems like its gotten a bit better, back when i checked it out the sparring partners werent all that good and the trainer didnt give me a good vibe. now they seem to have some decent cats over there. but where i train, 2 busses away there is great sparring, and i get along real well with my trainer so im likely to stay. hes given me crazy amount of attention from day 1, the chances of finding another trainer who invests in my like that at this point are slim. but real talk.. sparring is important so i would leave if i was u.

It could take 1-2 years to get properly ready to start fighting... at my gym they will not put you in unless they're certain your ready, they said some people put them in quicker but if they make sure that little bit more you will do better.

I aint had my first one yet, I guess your ready when your ready... some people learn at different paces, are already fit before starting, etc. It all depends I guess.

lol yea Ray's a nut. Train with the guy for 1 minute and you'll see why he was a punching machine lol. He ha has lot of interesting stories too lol like why he hates Zab Judah's guts. Sadly he doesn't want to train fighters anymore it seems, I'm hoping he comes around he just recovered from a major set back in his life.

Took me 6 months started in October fought this past March won a majority decision. I was luck because I had the #1 ranked amateur for my weight class in the country in my gym and I sparred with people bigger than me so I went into the ring with the thoughts that only God would stop me beating this man, I busted his lip nose and knocked out his gumshield knocked him down in the 1st and yet it was still a MD.

Yea man I've been saying I'm gonna leave for the longest time but I never do it lol. It's just the gym is so close to where I live, I can walk there if I want, and I'm very good friends with some of the people there I feel like I'm turning my back on them if I leave. Also it's free if you live in the area. I guess I've just been hoping things shape up, waiting for Ray to come back. But when he came back on Wednesday he was so disgusted with the gym he doesn't even wanna run it.

but yea your 100% right, I should leave. I just need to man up and do it.
