  • I lost my first boxing match

I am an ameture boxer just starting out...i had my first bout a couple of days ago.
I went in there first round and i won it i went in there and i landed a good punch and kept flurrying landing mostly every punch i gave him one standing eight. and then in the 2nd round i went out flying and gave him another standing eight. then i started to get tired at the end of the second. then the third came i was spent i came out again flying and was winning and then the kid threw elbows at me and pushing me on the ropes to tire me out even more and it worked and the reff gave me a standing eight after a minute of the third i went out again and the ref stopped it and he won there was only 5 seconds left of the fight.

now i want to ask is how should i be getting my conditioning up more to be able to flurry for a full fight..i run every other day about 3 miles ... should i increase it to everyday? i dont ever want this to happen again i feel like crap after all the training i ave been through it feels like i let everyone down i gassed out what should i do?? it was my breathe my wind that needs work

3 miles is a decent length. instead of increasing your distance, increase your speed. try timing yourself when you do it to see how muchyou get better.

            Switch up your running.

Run for distance.... next time... run sprints.... Changing up is the best thing you can do...

When your running distance your not training your body to be able to handle ALL OUT PEAK LEVEL endurance... thats where sprints come in.

Running as hard as fast as you can, will prepare you for when you are flurrying, your body will be used to the hard breathing, and the pushing of your body.

Lol why the hell are people telling him to run more?

PACE YOURSELF!!!!! relax when your in the ring, theres no point in going hell for leather, you might win but you'll learn NOTHING. Think about your shots, think about your defense. boxings not a street fight, for goodness sake.

All the fitness in the world wont help you if you 'box' like that. It would take some ridiculous conditioning to last 3x2s of throwing punches every single second, as hard as you possibly could. Spar more and learn to box. then box

yup, you have to learn to control your pace and flurry at the appropriate time

relax and pace yourself next time, dont come out swinging, its never a good idea. Run at a steady, strong pace for 4-5 miles a couple of times per week for overall conditioning and then do sprints at least once a week

for example, a sprint workout i did yesterday

2-3 mins light jogging plus stretching to warm up
4x2 min stair running (sprint up stairs as hard as you can, up each step so very short sharp motion, then jog briskly back down to recover, 4 2 minute rounds of that with about 30-40 sec in between each round)

                    then a 3-4 minute break

then sprint 50m (it was roughly a 40-50 metre distance) and then jog back slowly, so you sprint hard, then immediately turn around and jog back slowly to recover, repeat 10 times

then some more light jogging and stretching cool down, then 5 minutes of shadowboxing to loosen up, sharpen up and just think about combos etc

this is 3 days out from a fight and probably my last really taxing thing before the fight, if i was doing a sprint session a week or more out from a fight it would be harder and longer, with some 800m sprints thrown in and probably a bit less recovery time
