Combos have to be strung together with relatively realistic rhythm (depending on how tight it's hung) and timing is important. If I haven't gotten in sparring time in a while, as long as I've been doing double-end bag, I can feel somewhat confident of my timing when I finally get back to it; it's not perfect, but enough to maintain.
If I'm good enough to spar pros, you'd think that it'd have some carry-over to the speedbag, but it doesn't. You just don't throw punches like that, even if you try to get your feet involved - it's still too static & unrealistic. Those sideways hammerfists aren't boxing punches.
Now I have heard of some unorthodox drills with the speedbag that are supposedly helpful - like punching the bag up into the top part, but i've never done it & would probably need some supervision till I get the hang of it.
