You might need more pressure, you might need less pressure. You might need it taped in a different place, or at a different angle, but taping will work.
Even if it doesn't make the pain go away completely, it will take some of the strain off the injury allowing you to keep training will still healing.
This is the second time I have injured my foot like this. The first time I didn't tape it up and just gritted my teeth and worked through the pain. It took about 3 months for the pain to go away like that.
This time I have been taping. No pain when training, especially once it gets warmed up, and its getting better quicker.
Now if you are trying to find ways to make it hurt after you tape it up, yes, you will be able to do that, but under normal workout conditions, it will feel MUCH better.Last edited by !! Shawn; 05-21-2009, 02:13 AM.

jumping rope with out shoes on will strengthen your feet
tapeing i guess helps dont know much about that
get shoes with more arch support as your arch flattens out it becomes really bad on the knees not to mention your feet id imagine that if you had better shoes or get an insole for your arch you wouldnt have this problem any more

Its from jumping back and coming forward quickly off the ball of your foot.
Fortunately there is a quick, simple solution that will completely eliminate the pain.
Tape your foot in front of the pain, not over it. The pain is caused by an injured ligament being stretched when you step on your feet and they widen.
Taping in front of the pain prevents this stretching, and completely eliminates the pain.
So basically, tape right behind the "knuckle" of your big toe.
Like this. I put a red dot where the pain is for me.

After shoes have been in use IE; Running, jumping rope, etc etc, they become worn down and therefore the support isnt as good, putting added strain on the foot. Usually the injury translates to something such as plantar Plantar fasciitis. Like i said previously, the extra support makes a world of a difference and can prevent chain reaction injuries to the ankles knees hips and even back.
Its not from jumping rope, its not from running. Its specifically from the strain of jumping back, then jumping forward like with a jab.
It has nothing to do with improper footware either. When I first did it, it was with a brand new pair of Adidas boxing shoes.
Also, I do all of my running barefoot, so you would think an injury related to lack of support, would occur during one of my daily 5 mile runs. But it didn't and it hasn't. It happened in the boxing gym both times, wearing boxing shoes, and jumping back and coming forward.
Its just a situation where you step off your foot wrong, nothing more, nothing less.
Its specifically the 1st dorsal intermetatarsal ligament (highlighted in red) that we are having problems with.

my foot has gotten considerably worse, i took last week off training, kept a bandage on it in front of the pain and it started feeling better, then i went to training last night, and as i sprang off my feet into a different position the pain came again in a huge rush and now i cannot walk again
should i go back to the doctor or does anyone know of anything i can buy at a pharmacy that may help? will the bandage help? theres a tournament on june 13th and i will kill myself if i cant fight at it
i was told by a mate to soak my foot in a tub of hot salt water, im doing that now, will that help?
