And I gotta say, that I'm starting from scratch again, learning the basics, not even punching anything. The boxing gym that I go to is bare bones...no ring or anything. But the one on one with the trainer, correcting my mistakes and learning everything about the sport is well worth the money I pay for.
What's the name of the gym and what city?

Anyway, to the thread starter, my question is, what's a nice looking dumbell, a sleek looking treadmill gonna teach ya? What kind of knowledge does a state of the art lat pulldown machine gonna give you, etc...

Good, solid boxing trainers are hard to come by these days. For some people they can't even find a single one!

But a great piece of gym equipment, I can google it and a ton of companies selling state-of-the-art gym equipment waiting to take your $$$ and in small print it says, girl model not included, lol.

Thanks for the feedbacks, I agree with most of you guys. Only flaw about that though is that more people go to the gym with the better equipment, meaning there are more people to spar, and spar more often. The new gym doesn't have many boxers yet, so I can only spar a few people there, if they are even there.

I'm at Contenders Gym in Mountain View, CA. I've never been to a boxing gym before so before I signed up I was thinking of a place that would have a couple heavy bags, speed bags, double end bags, and a boxing ring of course (maybe I've just seen too many pictures of Wildcard Gym). But when I went to visit, I was surprised at how small the place was and that it had no ring. It's all good though, there's still a place to spar that gets roped off and there's still enough space for people to train. It's the only gym close to me so I'm happy.

My gym has the basics and all you need and the trainers are good but only when they feel like it... there are alot of people so i guess its hard for them to keep an eye on everybody

There are the basics, mirrors, jump ropes, double end, speed bag, heavy bag, large ring. A new gym but a reputable trainer, or a gym with more equipment BUT not much attention geared towards improvement but making money. BTW the new gym is considerably the same price....

Cliff notes for the lazy: Being the same price, would you rather have a good trainer but less equipment to work with in a gym, or a well equiped boxing gym but not much focus towards improving boxers?
man a boxin gym does NOT need treadmills and/or weight machines, non of my boxin gyms had that ****, and i personally rather it that way, but if i had to pick between trainer or gym, i'd go with gym

if you are sparring and competing then you need a trainer to work the mitts with as much as possible. Everything else is secondary. If you are just tryign to get in shape then go for the equipment.

Why would you want weights and a treadmill for anyway? Calisthenics are better than doing weights and a treadmill will never be as hard as pure roadwork. Buy a pair fo Saucony's and go for the good trainer. **** the poncey fancy *** gym for posers! get back to basics, that is what boxing is all about
