Deviated or blocked septum? Of course it will require surgery: it's called a septoplasty. Who would want to keep a deviated/blocked septum though and decrease their breathing capability? You need it if you want to be an athlete.
If you see a medical professional immediately [and it must be IMMEDIATE; I waited a couple of days and thus needed surgery] upon injuring your nose, it may be reset without the need of surgery. And your nose will be crooked. Hardly noticeable though.
Any twat that says going to a Dr. isn't that necessary because you'll look cool, mean or whatever is probably no boxer. My nose bends slightly to the left, I don't like it. You wont either.
1) Broken noses aren't common. The glove doesn't remove power, in fact there are theories that suggest people actually punch harder with gloves on by physically feeling their hand is safe from damage and also having additional weight on the end. HOWEVER, a glove's surface spreads out impact, the foam prevents trauma. That is why a bare knuckle fight will cause my injuries. This element of the gloves design helps prevent things such as broken noses. I've had straight rights square on my nose and the most that's happened is it's swollen for a day or two.
2) IF your nose does get broken you should possibly try to straighten it by getting somebody who is strong and knowledgeable to pull it into place, it'll hurt like hell though. Basically, your nose isn't bone, it's catalidge. When this gets damaged rather than snap it becomes a bit more rubbery and sticky. It'll then set again, with the new shape, which is why it's possible to re-adjust a nose just after it's been broken but not re-adjust a broken arm. THIS ISN'T RECOMMENCED BY THE DOCTORS IN CASE IT CAUSES FURTHER DAMAGE.
3) A broken nose can result in deformity, physically of course, but also in regards to your nasal passages, sinuses and much more. If this happens, the best you can hope for is a slight decrease in your ability to breathe through your nose.
4) If you go to a Dr. with a freshly broken nose that has already begun to set, he'll tell you to go home until the swelling goes away. You can tell if your nose is broken by the usual signs, 1) severe swelling of the nose 2) pain 3) it may be crooked 4) bruising under the eyes. The Dr. will see you once the swelling is down, if it is crooked enough to hinder your breathing etc. he'll schedule a simple procedure where they break your nose and attempt to reshape it.
5) I found out from my Dr. it is entirely possible to break elements of your nose and not know. A full broken nose will show the signs that i've already stated. However, you can break elements which will be masked by swelling.
But in answer to your question, yes your nose will fix itself unlike a broken arm etc. but it may not fix itself correctly or it may be somewhat deformed. Always best to go to a doctor. A bit morbid though, as the best they can do is re-break it and attempt to fix it.
Speaking of broken nose's, it reminded of HBO Legenday nights were Emanuel Steward talks about the first time he put Thomas Hearns into spar, and how he got he nose broke and Steward looked to see what his reaction was from it, and he just put it back in place and carried on sparring.
