  • Video: Padwork.

Padwork from yesterday. Not happy with it. I need to move my head after I punch, especially with a low left. My hooks are slapping etc... Feel free to give suggestions...

Try and put some more snap in your jab, also dont stand so close to the pad man give your self some room, you dont want to shorten all your punches. When your throw the hooks, plant your feet let your hips do all the work. Am a fighter my self, Ive had 9 fights.

Yeah, I need to start snapping it again. Like I said in the in the other thread, I am not happy with my jab. Its gotten lazy since I cut my knuckle. It is still healing, and I have a bruise on my middle knuckle on my left hand, but I should still be able to snap my jab more.

I cut my knuckle, then bruised my knuckle two weeks later turning my hips into a left hook on the heavy bag, and I need to get back into the habit of doing it. I've started slapping the hooks too much, probably because it feels better on my hand, none the less, it is still unacceptable.

The cut is on my pinkie knuckle. Its still healing, but it should be serviceable.

When jabbing, take a step forward. That is your main weakness. When throwing the right, make sure to raise your left to protect your chin as if you were fighting. A bit more emphasis on footwork

My legs have been pretty weak for a while now. I've been working hard to get some strength back in them. Ive been working on my calve strength in particular so I can step into my punches much better. My footwork looks particularly sloppy and sluggish in the video because my calves were, and still are unbelievably sore.

Stepping into punches has always been a problem for me as I am a natural lefty, and my right leg is my weak leg. Been working on the calves strength so I can really get a good spring forward on the step.

I agree with you about bringing up my left when I throw my right. Its one of the bad habits I have gotten into being in the gym, but not being able to spar.

As for people that keep telling me I need to abandon the philly shell and keep my left up at all time. That is not going to happen. If I feel I am in imminent danger I will bring the left up, but other than that, I feel the increased visibility is far more beneficial to my defense than the low left is a liability.

I understand that your front foot is weaker, but when you bring up your leg strength, try to be a little more on your toes and let your foot direct your punch, because I see you dont really twist your leg into the throw, which takes away a lot from your power and makes you less mobile.

No, my front leg is my stronger leg, my back leg is my weaker leg. Everything else you said is right on the money.

Then, you should defo get on your toes with the front foot, you handicap your offense and defense by being flatfooted. You can also play around with the foot(and toe) position to throw same punches under different angles.
