  • Need help on technique!!

    what in the world do you do while sparring when you get tired and run the **** outta breath? man the **** happened to me yesterday and i was thru! how do you stay calm and maintain while sparring instead of getting tense and going for the kill. also when someones putting pressure on you how do you stay calm and not panic or get nervous and forget everything youve been taught. and dont say spar more because i have and it still happens? will shadow boxing help? also dc champ gave me some great advice on what to remeber but how do i clear my mind up to remember what he told me. its like i go blank before i sapr. im so used to streetfighting i totally forget what im supposed to do. tell me how to clear my mind and relax so i dont get winded . thank you

    Focus on your breathing, and everything will come to you.

    p.s.- does your sig require the size 300 font? just curious.

      Honestly, you shouldn't have to THINK while your sparring. It should be coming naturally. Drilling always helps. Do more pad work so you get used to what you're supposed to be doing. Thinking takes too much energy. I've realized that when I begin to THINK about what I'm supposed to be doing, that's when the other guy tags me.

        Fatigue makes cowards of men... Being in condition is half the battle for amatuer boxing.. first you need good conditioning.. and those problems u have come with experience.. if you're still used to streetfighting u have'nt been boxing that long.. experience is the best teacher.. quitters never win and winners never quit.. remmeber jab is the most important punch.. if someone is putting pressure on you just keep you earmuffs on and jab and step to the side . double jab step to the side.whenever in doubt just jab. practice moving both to the left and the right.. if you are a righty it will feel awkward moving to the right so practice it on the heavy bag.. everything comes with practice

          Man, when I run out of breath in sparring...I go into a defensive shell and think about how to catch my breath...Fighters have to learn how to get into a defensive shell sometimes if incase they get into trouble.

          But honestly, running out of breath should never ever happen, you need conditioning BAD.

            Well, for starters. Looking at your other thread, stop smoking! Secondly, run and get in shape. Stop worrying about beating the hell out of the big bag. Get a good cardio workout in.

            Also, when you are sparring, you are in there to WORK. It isn't a real fight, it's 'practice'. You should not be trying to kill someone.

            It all comes with experience. It is nothing but natural instinct and reaction that kicks in. You can spend a year or more training, but I guarentee your first fight, infront of a live croud. You are gonna go in the ring with a good head. You intend to box and use your jab and move, and all everything you learned. Once that bell rings, and you get hit. It will be nothing but a slug fest.

            How do you deal with someone putting pressure on you? Circle the ring, and stick a jab in their face.


            Calm yourself down, things come with experience.

                i know im 250 now with asthma and bronchitis man. what do i do for shock training? and to speed up the process?

                    high intensity interval training

                    5 mins to warm up
                    1:30 at an easy pace (1min 30 seconds)
                    30 seconds hard
                    1:30 easy pace
                    30 seconds hard
                    ...
                    2 mins to cooldown

                    start off with 1:30 as ur easy pace and slowly reduce that time. the idea is to get ur heart used to recovering on the fly. once ur down to 1 minute recovery time (easy pace) increase ur hard pace to 45 seconds and so on. u should be sweating like a mother and feel absolutely exhausted after ur done; so if u aren't then change ur recovery time and/or hard pace.

                    if u got bad cardio then start off with 14-16 minutes (not including warm up and cool down). u can run, stationary bike, cross-trainer, any cardio machine really.
