Roadwork is a must...I try to run early in the morning (Although, I really hate running during the winter) so therefore I do my roadwork on the treadmills during December. But, I really find it BORING to run inside...I like running where the air is 'fresh'. lol..

Also try to incorporate HIIT sprints (High Intensity Interval Sprints). I use a Heart Rate monitor and it's always fun to try to stay in zone..

Lastly, always always always warm up (Dynamic stretches before and Static Stretches afterwards) and wear the proper equipment. It's amazing how wearing the right shoes can make a whole world of difference on your joints and feet. Two words: New Balance.

Anyways, if you ever decide to push yourself when you run...make sure not to go too hard.. it sucks having really sore legs or feet.

    Cheers!

A slow pace jog can help your endurance and stamina levels, and yes it can also shed a few pounds.Sprints are also good for fitness levels.

I think running, jogging, sprints etc is a must in boxing because no matter how talented of a fighter you are if you havent' got fintess or endurance or stamnia you will face defeat and a pretty bad beating because there nothing worse than being tired and lacking stamina in a boxing ring.

and i have, dudes in my gym run about 10 miles, takes them about an hour and 30 minutes, pointless i think, he's jogging, which is pointless
i do some 20 seconds sprints and jog for about 10 seconds, and sprint again and jog and so on, takes about 30 minutes of my day

dude has more stamina than me in the ring?. possibly, i have'nt really hit that point of fatigue yet, explosiveness, **** all, i'd punch him twice in the face before he throws one punh or be long gone when he moves in to strike, slow on their ****in feet i'll tell you that, i dunno, maybe i do things better?, im 17, some guys in their are about 20-30, seem to take this **** real serious, not gettin no where if you ask me

it does'nt help with explosiveness if your jogging, infact jogging will make you slower as it develops your slow twitch muscles leaving behind your fast twitch muscles, you could always go full burst everynow and then but is'nt it somethin you can just do anywhere if you want explosive legs to move out of the way?, you dont need to run, just polymetrics and do short fast movements to wichever point you desire

so what is the point in jogging?,
it's just weight control i imagine
jogging(even though that **** will develop slow twitch mucles)
it will help you get the weight you desire in boxing? does'nt something more explosive help you lose weight easier plus make you stronger(not to mention more explosive)?

what im sayin is, jogging to me seems pointless to the point of its only use is that after some good aerobics the body can put on muscle easier
other than that jogging is pointless and i dont see why people run 10 or so miles, 6 should be the max(and it should be a good paced jog not slow)

or am i missing somethin here?

but ofcourse i say this for boxers, if we are trying to be boxers, why are we running instead of boxing?

I've wondered myself why some people run so bloody much at a slow trot. I've even read articles where they suggested (as part of periodization mind you) where you should run at a pace where you could talk comfortably as your running. wtf? If you can talk easily you aint runnin!

I only do runs that are 2 miles. Occasionally I'll do 3. I cover the two miles in 11:30 now which is a pretty damn good pace. I only run twice a week though (tuesday, thursday) and I only do it because I think you should occasionally do something that has zero rest in it, so that you get used to going hard for a decent amount of time without rest, so when you do get rest you (seem) to recover faster.

The rest of the time (mon, wed, fri) I do things that make alot more sense to me than running a long time slowly. I do some of ross's conditioning drills and I make my own depending on what I'm trying to achieve. Things like burpees and lateral jumps and fast high knee dumbell presses or punches are great for boxing Id say. They're fast, require explosiveness and speed and get you breathing hard.

If your running for a good distance (3+ miles) fartlek runs would probably decrease the slowing effect of jogging. While your running switch up styles, do some hops, then jog a few minutes, run sideways, jog, stop and do some pushups, jog, sprint, run backwards, jog, do some pullups on a tree or a park you pass, jog, shadowbox, jog blah blah blah. I've done a few like this and it breaks up the monotony of a long run, I still run at at least a 7 minute mile pace throughout the whole thing though. I'd recomend doing it really early though since you kind of look like a tool doing it lol.

A fun thing to do while doing these is if a car is creeping along pick something ahead of you and try to beat it to that point. Makes it so you dont just go at your comfortable pace, like a fight, it doesnt always go at your speed. **** that was a long post, anybody read all that? lol

I hate running....i just like the results.

I pretty much run 2 miles in 15 minutes. That's how i base how fast i am or how much work i put in. I run usually 4 miles on an average. If i had the time, i'd run 5 miles everyday....plus gym work and sparring. But this god damn job prohibits me from doing what i want to do.

              Life is fun isn't it?

*****...i had to run yesterday in the rain.

              Don't forget to do sprints.

you cant put a price on running, as the old boxing training addage goes, "If you have time for only one exercise, run." from memory during sports science the more you develop your aerobic system the quicker lactic acids disperse from you muscles which means you may get tired nearly as quick but you be fresh and ready quicker the more fit you are, if you ran every day, you soon notice how at the gym no matter how long you train for you never get "dead" tired,

Why jog when you can sprint? If you are looking to get in good shape sprintings the answer. You dont burn ANY fat sprinting though so you would need a mixture.

And to poster#2.. skipping rope?? I've found that useful. As a boxer its always good to be on your toes. I feel light on my feet when I spar during the weeks when I jumprope...
