running is the best way. Increase your runs to at least 7 miles. I know one former pro who put on 6 stones and he wanted to make a comeback so started running even 10 miles because 5-6 was too less for huim. Runnins is best way to burn off all that fat without getting weak. Don't worry too much about losing strength. it's in the head and overexaggerated.

When you lose weight you get alot fitter which makes you stronger in boxing terms. All that bull**** about losing loads of power is bollocks if your losing alot of fat and not much muscle. You only lose muscles if you starve yourself of protein and lose weight that way. if you do it this way (running) you might even end up with MORE power.

Erm, well, first things first which no doubt everyone would have ignored. Whats your weight and body fat % because 50 lbs is alot and I doubt its safe to cut that kind of weight unless you're properly obese. I would say if you're anything between normal to chubby 50 lbs is too much and you just have to accept that you're not that light. I want to be bigger, but i'm not, i'm a welterweight, with effort I reckon I could comfortably become a middleweight, I will never be a heavyweight. Boxing is not about forcing your body, its about accepting it and then making it optimum at that natural weight and then learning the boxing specifics to that.

Your punching power wont suffer so long as you transfer your techniques into a newer weight. Us light guys don't have the mass, so we punch fast and snap our punches alot more, you big guys have mass, but usually lack speed, and usually throw less blows. Punching power does not relate to muscle, per se.

Anyway, if you were to try and lose 50lbs its going to take a long time, it wouldn't be easy and it'd involve almost everything from boxing training, to running, to a new diet to cycling, swimming. Losing that much weight wouldn't be about going running 5 mornings a week.

If he is fat it is Ok to drop 50lbs. People have done it before and there is no need to accept bull**** like he's big boned or whatever. 50lbs is not too much but like JayCoe says you have to make sure it is fat. Anyone who is a few stones overweight can cut that much even if they are not morbidly obese because it is all excess fat.

You can drop a ton with running but vary your running. mix long runs, interval training and sprints to get the weight off.

I was 170 with less then 10% bodyfat a year ago, im fighting next month at 132 and i am already at weight and dont need to cut.

The main thing besides the running is your diet needs to be spot on.

I would recommend precision nutrition program. If you do not want to buy the program read the authors articles at www.johnberardi.com for some insanely good, well thought out, scientifically researched information.

If you drop 50lbs, you will lose power. Alot of power is determined by getting your weight into a punch so more weight behind the punch= more power. Don't get me wrong, you're not suddenly going to punch like a girl, and you can maintain strength while dropping weight, but don't expect to keep all your power.

If its flab, you won't necessarily lose power as increase in speed gives you more power. fatties never have much power either due to lack of athleticism. It is an oversimplification that losing wiehgt means losing power. If you have natural power you need not worry. If it was just the weight of the fat, then p4p you probably were not that powerful. In p4p terms it is possible for him to gain power while moving down. That's why alot of boxers skim their weight to the lowest possible = more p4p power. In some cases its more power full stop.

                    Lift weights.

Low intensity jogging will help you lose fat, and muscle. So about half of the weight you will end up losing will be precious lean muscle tissue.

I would recommend high intensity interval training. Like sprints.
